First timer to the gyno(very embarrassed)

This is very embarrassing to me because i am extremely new at this...but i am very scared and concerned about my first visit. I am 23 and have had two other partners aside from my fiance. I have never been to a gynocologist. My mother was very traditional while i was growing up when it came to womans health and sexuality .Most of what i know i have learned from experince and i feel i am at an age where i should have already experience such medical assistance making it even harder for me to go. I feel i will be judged ...The reason i am getting courage to go is because my boyfreind has asked me to marry him and i want to make sure i am healthy since we have had unprotected intercourse lately... I have done this before with an old boyfriend which cheated.. Am i over reacting ? I scared to be judged most of all and to find something maybe wrong and he may leave me...Any advice anyone can offer to maybe help me make my appointment with comfort? Please

My old first-time-to-the-gyno post has dropped to page 3 or 4, but here it is:

I'm sexually active and I decided it was time for birth control, so even though I was afraid, I needed to go!
The nurse and doctor were both very nice to me. They talked to me about self-breast exams, different types of OTC birth control, and the different tests/examinations they were going to do.
The doctor showed me how to perform a breast exam. That was sort of uncomfortable emotionally because, well, those are my boobs O.o I can't see what you're doing underneath that sheet, but I can see what you're doing to my boobs and it's just strange. Haha.
The speculum (metal thing they put inside you so they can see in) didn't hurt very much, but it was uncomfortable. Lots of deep breaths. I barely felt the swab for the Pap smear.
My doctor gave me a gonorrhea test because it's fairly routine for girls my age; you can have it and have no idea you do, so it's a good idea to get, but you don't have to. That's another swab I barely felt.
Then she felt the shape/size of my uterus and I have to admit this was VERY uncomfortable. It's a manual exam, meaning that the doctor puts her fingers in your vagina and her hand on the outside of your lower stomach to feel. As I've mentioned in other posts, my vagina is on the small side and two fingers hurts. It didn't take long at all, so I guess it wasn't so bad.
After the exam, I talked to the doctor about birth control and Gardasil, the HPV vaccine. I chose not to get the vaccine, but I'm going to read about it. I got a 2-month sample of Yaz. I've seen some bad posts about it in the birth control forums, but I'll let you know how it goes for me. I like to keep an open mind.
Also, the doctor said you don't have to have a Pap smear until 3 years after you become sexually active or age 21. However, I had a regular doctor that I saw for an illness tell me that a Pap smear is necessary as soon as you become sexually active. I figure better safe than sorry.
I hope that if you're thinking of going to a gyno for the first time this helps you
If I had known exactly what was going to happen, I would have felt much more at ease, so I really hope this helps you. If anybody at that office judges you, especially staff, you don't need to be there. Find another clinic. If your fiancé loves you, he won't leave you.

        Relax take a deep breath...

I understand where your coming from 100%. I myself am a 19 year old mother of a 2 year old daughter meaning i was 17 when i got my first pap...and i swear to you i was more scared in that waiting room than i was waiting for the results of my pregnancy test..lol...I was scared to be judged too for different reasons(being preg * 17) My first gyno was a female...who made me EXTREAMLY uncomfortable...i had no idea even what she was going to do,and she didn't really explain...but she went off on prenatal leave herself after my first visit...i then had a male who i honestly felt more comfortable with...i found that he was much more infomative telling me what he was going to do...and then what he was doing as he did it as well as warning me of the uncomfortability potential...The staff was good too and i mean think about it this way anything that could be wrong...chances are your Docs seen worse...lol..But many women have definatly waited longer than you...my neighbour growing up was 32 before she got her first pap...only to find out she had cervical cancer that was too far gone to treat with anything other than a hysorectomy...Sorry if thats scary but its true and just a little F.Y.I. about that issue is it takes many years for "abnormal cells" to turn to cancer....As for the 2 fingers hurting issue as weird as you may feel say something before your exam starts and chances are the Doc will take the right precautions whether its more lubrication(which they use in excess...lol) or other methods...i'm sure they dealt with the situation before...but do yourself and your fiance a favour and do it...and as the previos poster said if he loves you he'll stay...Even get him tested too...Knowledge Is Power...hopefully this helps...take care
