Vaginal distress for 5 months, Drs cant help, I feel like I am losing my mind...HELP

Hi everyone, about five months ago I had a red swollen raw burning vagina went to the Dr. and said its yeast (no discharge and not much itching)..They gave me diflucan.. helped a little...then I had to go on antibiotics (Zythromax) for bronchitis and it returned and they gave me two doses of diflucan..still helped a little. Then after my period I was irritated still and a new Dr said no its BV..I had no odor at all and not much discharge...gave me Metrogel I got worse, then they gave me oral Flagyl still worse....Since then I have had tons of cultures and everything is negative, BV,Yeast, all STDs including HIV....It burned a little when I urinated but worse if I wiped. For all this time I have been eating tons of Yogurt and probiotics. Lately I have developed a thick white discharge, no odor, and still have off and on mild irritation and occasional itching. I just had a culture come back and still negative....Now I am also having a shooting pain from my urethra to my belly and most of my irritation is right under my hood. The opening and inside of the vagina has never been a problem its always external. I dont have pain with tampons or pelvic exams. and I had a qtip test for vulvadoynia which did not hurt as well. I havent had sex in three months.I feel like im lost and Drs dont know what to do..Any help would be appreciated...THANK YOU!!!!!

      Hi bmb1213,

Your story is unfortunately, all too familiar to me. I am going through something very similar right now. For the last 5-ish years I have been going to doctors and telling them about the pain, burning and odorless white discharge. They usually would just continue to treat me with Diflucan, even after my test results would say that I was negative for yeast. I am in no way a doctor so please don't take this as a diagnosis, but almost 2 months ago I was diagnosed with desquamative inflammatory viginits (DIV), and since starting treatment I am almost completely better. This type of vaginitis is pretty rare, and many gynecologists won't know how to treat it. I just ended up asking mine if she would try because I couldn't afford the specialist she referred me to. If this is what you have, it is treated with a combination of antibiotics and steroids. Both of which have unpleasant side effects, but I think a couple of bad weeks were worth being healthy again.

Since I can't post links I can't share any of the research I found with you. But, if you do some googling you should be able to find out if this is what you have, and if it is, once you find a doctor who will treat you it can be an easy fix.

      Take care!

Thanks soooo much for your reply..I did some research and it says DIV has a ph level above 4.5 and mine is low almost too acidic....I dont know how to explain it but I almost feel too clean down there. I dont use any soaps or any chemical anywhere near the vagina. My stinging pain has become more localized on the left side on the labia minora and just under the hood and comes and goes throughout the day...

          Hi again

Have you had any luck? I know how frustrating and confusing these problems can be. Have you thought about seeing a specialist?
