    irregular periods+unexplained pain

ok, right now i feel like my doctor is just blowing me off.

here is what has been going on.

i got my first period at the normal time as most girls do, it was all great, no cramps, i was always regular, i even knew when i would get my period to the day. untill 3-4 years ago, i had the 'my period is comeing' feeling and it did not.
i waited, 2 months late, no period, which is not uncommon for people in their teens. but around that time i started haveing unexplained abdominal pain, it would only last a few hours so i never put much thought into it. but i did go to my doctor and he said it was just a cyst.

i trusted him and went on with my life. my periods have only got more irregular, the longist being 10 months. other then a not so good diet, i am not stressed and a normally happy person!

now more stange things just keep happeing, some irregular bleeding, though it is rare. constant side disomfert.

in sep i had really bad back/pelvic pain for 2 weeks.
and this dec i had back/pelvic/abdominal pain. along with lack of appitite, nausia, change in bowel habbits, this went on for 3-4 weeks and just went away in january.

my doctor refuses to think it might have something to do with my mentral cycle, even though in dec i had my period along with the pain.

i have had all my hormones check, and had a ultra sound. which rules put alot of things.
i am almost 20, not sexually active (have not even had a date XD)

my doctor refuses to send me to a gyn, saying how it would be useless unless it is causeing me not to get pregnat.

I'm so sorry this is happening. I would go see another doc. It may be endometriosis - but I'm not a doc. Plz get it checked out by someone else,k. take care! ~hugs~

it's good to hear i am not the only one. I am also 20 and have had probs with my period since i was 12. the doctors kept brushing me off too. I went to so many different doctors and finally found one who would actually listen to me. But it was only after i required blood transfusions at 16 because i had had a period for alost 4 months straigh with very heavy bleeding. I have now been diagnosed with endometriosis and Poly Cistic Ovarien Syndrom and have had seeral operations in regards to it. i advise you to traet it really serious and to just go back to the doctors time and time again until they decide to listen to you.

        i am so freakin ****ed!!!!

Lately i have been reading a lot about different problems in the internet that might have to do with period loss for more than the usual time gone... i keep on trying to make an appointment with my gyn. but all he does is schedule me for months to come and it is annoying i will not have any medical insurance in a couple of months so i was hoping i could get it checked out before i had to spend all of this money on the tests and all the doctor visits... but it looks like i am not going to be getting what I NEED. i have been feeling so depressed lately loss of apetite and all sorts of symptoms. i dont know what too do... does somebody know better about this or some advice ... i just wish i could get answers, likewise i fell like my gyn is just BLOWING ME OFF...

That's one of the most ridiculous thing I've heard. Pain is usually a sign that something is not right. I think if I were you I wouldn't wait for him/her (that is unless your insurance requires a referral) to send me to a gyno, I'd take the initiative, find a doctor and set up an appointment and go myself.
There is a method to my madness ........ I just haven't found it yet.

              time for a new doctor

Im not a doctor but it sounds to me like you have endometriosis. I had almost the exact same problems when I was younger. An ultrasound cannot tell you if you have it. The only way to get a correct diagnosis is to have a Laporscopy done. You can have a very microscopic amount of endometriosis and be severely affected or you can be covered in the endometrial lesions and not have one singal symptom. you definately need to find a new doctor. if you dont treat it early you could develop permanent scarring and find it difficult to get pregnant when you want to have kids.

                Hiya,

Sorry to hear about this, you sound like you are going through what I went through in my teens and my 20s, firstly you should try change doctor if you are able to because when youre in your teens doctors have a habit of fobbing you off unless you tell them you are trying to have a baby, then they start sending you for tests. When I was 20 years old, I was lucky to have 3 periods a year and most of the time there was plenty of abdominal pain which was crippling my doctor used to keep sending me for pregnancy tests (which was pointless and expensive). Have you thought about going on the contraceptive pill to regulate your periods and eliviate the pain as that worked for me. Unfortunately I am now 32 and trying for a baby and this is the only reason why I have had tests done, before that noone took me seriously, even after having several abnormal smear tests. You should be sent for an ultrasound to determine if the cysts will become problematic (as I have a cyst which has now tripled in size and finally have a gyne visit, but here in the UK as health care is free, there are very long waiting lists, and it has been nearly two years wait).. you should also be screened for every STD too just to be on the safe side. If everything is clear and your ultrasounds are ok, you should have your bloods taken, this will check your thyroid, and other things and also determine whether you may have Polycystic ovaries. Failing that you can ask for a laparoscopy which will determine if there is any scarring as in the long run, when you are trying for kids you could have problems (or not ! as everyone is different).

If you are able, try go on the pill as it really does help (and helped me for 10 years) but do push your doctor..

I hope this helps and wish you the best of luck.

First of all I want to thank all of you for the support you all have been giving me, it has really helped me out a lot. Unfortunately I need to wait already until November of 2008, My doctor told me to do so to give it some time or else if I kept srtressing it, it would not help me. But, I understand what i have now, I have done some research of my own and my doctor has helped me understand as well as all of you, Again thank you anyways to all of you who helped me get through this problem...
