can anesthesia affect cycle?
I had oral surgery with an anesthetic 2 days ago. I am on birth control and i'm not due for another week and a half. I am also taking amoxicillin for a tooth infection which I was told can affect birth control. Can any or all of this bring on my cycle so early? This has never happened to me. -
Are you meaning that you have already gotten your period? When I saw the title of your thread it got me to wondering. I have a post just beneath yours about how my period has changed and about 3 weeks ago I had my wisdom teeth removed while under anesthesia...If anyone has info about this that would help, i'd like to know too- -

I think it can - amoxicillin or any antibiotic upsets your system ...i dont know if you were unconcious with your surgery but i dont think this would affect your periods ...its prob the antibiotic ...which can affect birth control , you need to be taking EXTRA protection with birth control as well as taking the pill, until you have finished the antibiotics .I had oral surgery with an anesthetic 2 days ago. I am on birth control and i'm not due for another week and a half. I am also taking amoxicillin for a tooth infection which I was told can affect birth control. Can any or all of this bring on my cycle so early? This has never happened to me.

Yes it can
anesthesia can affect the way your liver metabolizes the birth control. The same thing happened to me after I had surgery back in September for an ovarian adhesion... I continued to take my birth control as directed and my periods would come 1 week early and then they just kept coming earlier and earlier until i was constantly spotting... in december I went back to my OB/GYN which is when he explained to me the issue with anesthesia affecting the way your liver metabolizes your birth control. The best thing to do is stop taking the birth control for an entire month and then after that start it the sunday after you start your period. It helped me alot, but it freaked me out until i found out what was wrong. Hope that is helpful

Antibiotics can negate birth control pills. I don't think most people get their period but with the anesthesia it could be enough. It is suggested you use a backup method of birth control during and for awhile after being on antibiotics. Usually that's 1-2weeks after but the instructions with some pills will actually say to wait until your next pack irregardless of where you are in the current one.Comment
