    Bacterial Vaginosis

After researching on the internet, this was the only thing I could find that was a reasonable diagnosis for my symptoms, which is just one; vaginal odor. I've never had problems down there, so I'm really worried. It started about a week ago, and at first I thought it was just because we were at the beach, but it hasn't subsided. Since then I have consulted a doctor and he agreed with me based on what I told him, but he could not discuss it any further, unless I made an appointment.

Is there a treatment, that anyone knows of, besides prescription drugs?

My boyfriend noticed it first, obviously during intercourse, since then we've attempted sex once more, but the odor was too much for either of us to maintain arousal. So, this is very frustrating to us both.

Any information or advice would be useful. Thanks.

    re: Bacterial Vaginosis

    Franny & Zoey:

Pretty much every woman out there has had this infection at least once if not more, it's very common. I've had re-occurring bacterial vaginosis for more than four years now, and like all the other women on this forum we've tried everything! There are other treatments besides anti-biotics which are bad for you in the first place. Check out the Chronic Bacterial Vaginosis forum posts but i'll give you a few options to try:

Cut out any dairy and sugar if you can.
Get some probiotics, specifically with the Reuteri and Rhamnosus strains in them and take a few a day until the smell goes away.
Take some immune supplements like Echinacea, Oregano oil, etc.
    Wear cotton underwear
    etc etc...

check out the forum mentioned above for more detailed options! Hope this helps

After researching it further, I purchased and began taking the probiotics suggested. However, I have been experiencing a heavier discharge, with a muddy brown color, and the odor is worse than ever. Is it getting worse so it can get better? *crosses fingers*

        BV diagnosis or...?

Funny enough (well not really) but I was having the exact same problem as you for the last week. I also did research and thought I had the same thing, BV. I too have never had any problems down there. The odor was worse during and after sex. I had really bad abdominal pains last night after dinner at my friends and went to the bathroom and an old tampon came out! Not even knowing that it was in there (I guess the string disappeared and I never thought about it until now) and I think it's been in there for over 10 days-gross I know. That would explain the nasty smell (yes I am mortified and disgusted) this might also be a problem for you?
Now I feel much better, no bad smell but I am worried about a bad infection. Has anyone out there had this problem and have any advice on the subject? I'd like to wait to see my own doctor till Monday for this issue-but should i get into a clinic ASAP?
