    Abnormal Pap Test! Pls Help!

    Hi,

Last year, i started noticing some bleeding after intercourse, sometimes i would have it sometimes not (depends on what position). I assumed my boyfriend was being too rough on me, and told him to be gentle and it disappeared for quite some time. Now, recently about 2 weeks ago, I started to bleed again after sex and got me very worried because now it accompanies pain during sex. I went to my Gyn and she did my pap test. 2 weeks later she called me in to the office because I got an abnormal paptest ("low-grade pap test" to quote her) and did a colposcopy procedure w/ biopsy. She removed a tissue sample in my cervix for further analysis. She told me not to worry because it's not cancer but could be HPV! I am still freaked out until now.

I am 23 years old and had 2 boyfriends (sexual relationship) in my life which is the 2nd one I am currently going out for almost 2 years. I have 1 week and a half to wait for my result on what the doctor says.

Does anybody have a similar situation and came back with a normal result after colposcopy? When she did the pap smear it was like a day before i got my period, could it be that also to get an abnormal result? I am still hoping a will get a normal test because it is really confusing me. I was about to choke my boyfriend.

Suggestions and advices would be really appreciated.
    Thanks for the time!!

I know it's hard, but try to calm down a bit until you know what's going on. You may be upset over nothing. Sometimes, the pap does come back abnormal, but it's not HPV or anything to worry about. Even if it is HPV, you've caught it in a very early stage. It is possible for your body to rid itself of the virus. Plus, you're not at the cervical cancer stage - it could be much worse. I know it's devastating at first, but it's not a death sentence.

IF you do have HPV here are some tips: keep your stress down, no smoking, folic acid really helps, as does vit.B & vit. C. You can fight it.

Hang in there and take care. Keep us updated,k. ~hugs~

Thanks for the reply. Hopefully everything will be okay. I will keep you posted what the doctor says. By the way, does anybody had colposcopy procedure before? and how long did the bleeding stop? It has been 3 days and I am still getting a dark reddish discharge.

      Thanks

yes, i have had 3 colposcopies and 2 LEEP procedures in the past. my last pap was abnormal, then i did the colposcopy and that came back normal without hpv. so relax, things could be okay. its normal to have that discharge for a few days, it will clear up.
i had both of my LEEP procedures while i was with my ex husband, so i was only ever with one man at that time. it can happen to anyone.
keep us posted on what happens.

I have also had these procedures. My sister did as well and she is 10yrs older than me. All was fine. They will have you go back every 6months instead of a year for awhile to check on it then you will go back to your regular visits. The bleeding will settle down, its like spotting but if memory serves correct you cant put anything like a tampon or have sex for awhile. I dont believe it was long but maybe its different now. Both my sister and I were fine but I had what I consider to be breakthrough bleeding for many years off and on with sex. It was very light, boyfriend would've never know if I hadnt told him cause we like to shower after or I will wipe him off as a gesture to take care of it. It doesnt really hurt but I guess where my procedure was done is right where the site continued to get hit during sex or exams. But it doesnt hurt and it has now stopped finally after years. I am proud to say that both my sister and I were fine but I am on the pill and will stay on it since we have a history of some occurences now. My sister had 2 healthy children and her tubes are tied and all is still well.

You will be fine. If you need to use a panty liner. A thin one just so you are confortable until you can use tampons again if you use tampons. Good luck

            Thanks!

Thanks for all the replies. Well, I have a long story to tell. To make it short, after the colposcopy i was recovering fine with minimal discharge and was clearing up, but one day I moved a huge cabinet around the room and I exerted so much force in doing it. The next morning i found myself bleeding and from that day it didn't stop and continued pretty heavily (im still bleeding btw its been 4 days). I called my doctor after the 3rd day of bleeding because I thought it was my period, but it started light and continued heavily (i change soaked pad every 2 hours) which I know is wrong because my period usually slows down in the 3rd day.

After her scolding me why I didn't call right away, I went to see her and she couldn't figure out where it's coming from but she stitched the biopsy site anyway because it was oozing with blood. My bleeding slowed down maybe this could be my period now, But last night was horrible I was passing huge clots and staining on wherever I lay or sit. It came to me that could it be a miscarriage? But i am trying to erase that thought in my head. It could be, but at the same time i thought,.. my doctor did the colposcopy did she do a pregnancy test on me?? they took my urine sample but I didn't ask what they did to it.
She did a preg test today it came out negative so i hope it was not a miscariage coz that would be horrible My BP was also high last night it was 188/130 now it came down to 138/98, im only 23 lol.

Today was a dreadful day, I hate Emergency Rooms, I ended up going to my private doctor anyway without them fixing me. lol. Advice to anyone, If in any cases your emergency can wait the next morning to your own doctor, do it, rather than going to the ER and wait 10 hours for nothing. Maybe our ER was bad.

PS. I got my colposcopy result back, my doc said it was the same result as the pap smear and just see her in 6 months to monitor it.

            Thanks for listening,

            Hugs,
            Anne

if you take care of yourself you should heal fine. make sure to take your vitamins. i had to get the cryotherapy afterwards and I've been fine. but it was scary at first.

I never went for a colposcopy when I was diagnosed with HPV. However last time I was at the gyno they did tell me there us no sign of the HPV and no change in my cervix, for which I am grateful. However. now a couple years later I seem to be having periods fpr 3 out of 4 weeks every month. Not heavy, but light for most of it. I have no insurance so I can't go to a doctor, I am wondering if I have developed problems from when I had the HPV.

Went through a bunch of abnormal paps in my youth. Here's the deal, an abnormal low grade pap just means there were some abnormal cells. We all them all over our bodies all the time, usually our immune system takes care of them. It's only when something gets out of wack (stress?) that the immune system gets overwhelmed and then it can be trouble. Vigorous sex can cause an abnormal pap, another pap in the recent past can cause it, most of the time it isn't a big deal. I've been biopsied several times, it's annoying but again not a big deal. The continued bleeding however is another thing, you could have cysts or fibroids, I've dealt with it recently and it was an super thick endometrial lining due to stress upsetting my normal cycle.

Have your Gyn do an ultra sound (it looks like a skinny dildo - easy) and find out what's in there or on there. Then they can deal with it. If you don't have insurance check out your county health services they may be able to help with a referral to a care provider at little or no cost.
