This is very unusual for me. I'm not on birth control or sexually active now, and am not sure what could explain this. I haven't had much in the way of cramps, although I typically have them; sometimes pretty strong. Thoughts?

New experience..unusual period
I am 30 years old and have always had fairly regular periods, but I have had a couple of strange weeks. I started a light period two weeks ago, and it was never very heavy. It stopped after a few days, as always. But then I began spotting again a couple of days later. This has never happened. It has been on and off since, and then tonight while in the shower I had a sudden large mass of tissue and blood come, followed by a steady stream of blood.

I'm older than you but still have fairly regular periods, I had something like this. It was a hormone imbalance due to stress. Apparently my periods weren't heavy enough for a couple of month and the uterine lining got too thick. That basically resulted in the situation you describe. The doc did an ultra sound to confirm the problem and put me on progesterine for 10 days, then I had an insanely heavy period and it was ok. Get in and get checked, fibriods can cause this too. -
Doctor results
Thanks, WildChild. It was pretty much what you described. My doc said that I didn't ovulate and my lining built up too much and was discharging. It was scary because I had huge amounts of blood and lining for 5 days. I started birth control and that stopped the bleeding.
Wow, what strange, complicated bodies we have.Comment
