If she is smart she would use this to ramp things up. That you want to do this with her, not while at a convention should be a good thing. When you do have to go to one, she (or you) could lay the ground work for some fun when you return. Or could you take her with you sometime and really play it out? Have her fly separately, get her own room, maybe some temp dye for a different hair color?
