    HIV Worry

I had unprotected sex with a guy about 3 months ago. I sweat at night, get the occasional diarrhea and I'm worried about HIV. He withdrew to ejaculate. Do you think I have reason to worry?

Have you been tested? Do you know if he has HIV?

Could it be possible? Yes. Usually, HIV will show up on a blood test within 3 months. Some people have longer incubation periods but that is more rare. If you're in college, most large campuses have a health services center where you can get an HIV test. They even have the same day tests now where you can find out very quickly. You can first experience symptoms within a few weeks of being infected. This is the time when the body is reproducing antibodies. Typically, the symptoms go away until it develops into full blown AIDS. The scary part is that alot of times when those initial symptoms occur, people don't realize what they are so they are ignored. In the meantime, they carry on with their lives, their sexual endeavors, etc.....and don't realize until sometimes years later that they have HIV.

Usually 2-4 weeks after being infected, some people develop a "flu like illness" that lasts a week or so then it goes away. Symptoms may include Fever, Headache, Fatigue, Swollen Lymph Glands, Rash.

The best thing you can do at this moment, is schedule an appointment for yourself ASAP at a doctor or local health clinic and get yourself tested for ALL std's. Clear your mind, don't live your life this way with this fear.........and by all means, consider it a lesson learned....ALWAYS protect yourself.

In answer to your question x.st.angel.x, he told me he had been tested for STI's a couple of months before we had intercourse, and said he was 'squeaky clean'. So I'm assuming I'm okay, but I always have this fear in the back of my mind. I'm just going to get tested for everything.

And you're right Beautiful Disaster, I have been regretting my actions ever since... I should've walked out as soon as I knew he intended to have unprotected sex. He said 'condoms ruin the moment', where was his respect for me?

Always practise safe sex, and if a man (even women) cant except that well then in my opinion show them the door. But you learn from your mistakes and from your previous post i can tell this is something you would not do again.

Getting tested for everything will be the best option and it will put your mind at ease as well. Let us know how you go!

It's a good idea to get checked just to give yourself peace of mind, but also if you did get a STD the earlier it's detected the better. They now have new HIV tests and you can get your results back in as little as ten minutes and all it takes is a finger prick, back in the day it was a three week long process just to get the results. I hope you get a clean bill of health and lesson learned. Good luck.

Get tested to get it out of your mind. If he had been tested for STD's then he must be clean, but you should take your own test just to get it out of your mind (and because you can never be sure otherwise).
