I'm soon to be 30 and was diagnosed with PCOS about 10 years ago. When I was in my late teens early 20's I had a pretty high sex drive. But, in the past 5-7 years it has become very low to almost non-existent. I have been to a gynocologist and asked him about having a low sex drive and he didn't seem to have an answer. His only response was to put me on the pill. And, from what I've read the pill can lower labido. I'm becoming frustrated with my situation. I've been with my boyfriend for 4 years now and he's been very supportive with this problem I have. But, at the same time I can sense the frustration he has over the lack of sex in our relationship. I don't blame him for being frustrated considering we have sex a whopping 1-2 times a month and have gone as long as 2 months without any sex at all. I'm hoping somebody can explain why I have such a low labido and if there is anything I can do to fix it.

I think anytime your hormones are off balance it could cause that. But with PCOS, androgen (male hormone) is higher than in the average female, so one would THINK that would cause an increase in libido.
Every bc pill I ever took caused me to lose my libido.

How healthy would you rate your diet. Are you consuming a lot of sugar. Try going on one of the Internet PCOS diets.Comment

True of diets that are designed to loose weight.
The discovery of insulin's role in PCOS has brought hopes for better treatment.
As for PCOS-Treatment is no longer just aimed at treating the individual concerns (ie: erratic menses, hirsutism, acne, etc.), but instead is now aimed at treating one of the underlying causes – insulin resistance. If insulin resistance is present, it is best treated with diet, exercise and weight loss if needed. Insulin sensitizing medications may be used as well. Most physicians prefer to start with diet and exercise and turn to drugs if needed. Keep in mind that not all women with PCOS have hyperinsulinemia, but the majority do.
