I need some opinions ladies! After years of a minimal sex life with my ex-husband (i.e. five minutes of sex every 3 or 4 weeks) I started dating a guy who I really like and we began to have sex, it's fantastic! Only problem is I have this itching problem every time we do it.

The first time we had sex we did so for 3 hours, it was great but I was so sore, dry, and eventually I began to itch the next day. The itching is right around the opening and was very slight. Not as intense as a yeast infection, no discharge, no odor, I only noticed it when I wiped after using the bathroom and every now and then while going about my regular business. After 24hrs it was gone.

The next time we had sex we did so for about 45 minutes, I wasn't sore the next day but I did itch again. Just like the last time the itching stopped a day or so later.

We've had sex many times since then, every time results in minimal itching the next day but I am alarmed.

I've been freaking out thinking this is an STD but doesn't it sound like irritation caused from so much sex? If it were an STD wouldn't the itching be constant, not just after sex? The itching is my only symptom. Thanks in advance for any ideas and opinions.

I would go to the doctor but I have no insurance and I'm trying to avoid shelling out the $120 office visit.

you could have got yourself a small tear in the opening of your vagina. I saw this on an episode of 'embaressing bodies' ha! A lady went in saying the same as you, that she had itches after having sex, and when he examined her, she had a tiny tear that was being irritated during penetration. It makes sense really - especially with the amount of sex your having and time wise of it. Lucky girl! :-) also, you say that you notice it more when you've used the bathroom - could be urine that makes it sting or itch some more?

I agree with Kya that it could just be a small tear towards the external of your vagina. Also, depending one what kind of condom you're using (if you are), the latex can really cause irritations. Some more than others. So, you could be having a reaction to the latex. Give it some time. If it seems to go away by itself within a couple of weeks, it probably was a tear. If it continues, try using a different brand of condoms or a good lube. If those don't help, it would be wise to check for medical opinion. I know it's spendy without the insurance, but if it is an STD it has to be treated. The fee is worth it, trust me!
