Hi, my boyfriend and I were wondering if anyone can offer some advice to a problem I'm having regarding bleeding after sex. I'm currently taking a low dosage of the pill (monofeme) for medical reasons (intense sickness during period). For the last 6 months, I've been taking them without the sugar pills, as prescribed by my doctor. What this does is it 0stops the period altogether, meaning no bleeding occurs (my cycle is 3 weeks and I 'miss' the period'.

However, a couple of days ago, after intercourse, my boyfriend found blood on the tip of the condom and shortly afterwards, this was followed by further bleeding from my vagina. This was initially disconcerting, as I have not bled for several months. However, the next day no bleeding occurred, which indicated to me it wasn't a period, but was caused from intercourse. Two days after the initial bleeding (today), while just walking after lunch bleeding occurred (and this was not provoked by sex/penetration of any sort). This worried me further, but it was darker in colour, which made me think it was from the previous day but didn't leave my body for whatever reason. However, during intercourse later today, the entire tip of my boyfriend's penis was covered in blood. So now I'm concerned that there is something wrong or an internal cut is causing bleeding. I was wondering if anyone has experienced this or have any idea of what might have caused this, because I don't feel that this is normal. I have been sexually active for 5 months and this has never occurred, and there was nothing different about sex this week than any other time. Does anyone know why this might be occurring and if I should be concerned?

This may be sign's of a problem, you may want to see your doctor as soon as possible to prevent possible further complications. I mean, it doesnt hurt to check right?

U can't take the pill continuously. I think you should get a second opinion, or the dr should have atleast told u you would bleed. You are having random bleeds as your body is trying to expell some of the blood and tissue that is still there as u haven't let it come out as your period usually would when your not on the pill. Even tho there is no egg u need to let that blood come out and let your body have some sort of a cycle. I'd go to another GP as the pill can help this stuff but u can still take it normally and get the benefits

Taking the pill (monofeme anyway) is actually a pretty common method to reduce cramping and sickness (as far as I'm aware anyway). It stops the period and any bleeding at all. I was nervous about it at first, asking if it was safe and she said there was nothing abnormal about it and would have no negative consequences. She (my doctor) never told me I would bleed because I'm not supposed to. I started feeling sick a again, so rather than going on the stronger dosage, she suggested I do this method and I have been taking it continuously for a year (with a break after 4 months and then back on). I haven't felt sick since, including now. The bleeding doesn't seem to be from a period though, it seemed like it was caused from penetration (as that was when it initially occurred).

So my guess for this is that maybe I wasn't lubricated enough and it scraped the side (but I feel no pain, so I'm not sure). I just wanted to see is anyone might have an idea as to why this might be. I haven't had any bleeding today, so it might have passed, but I'll keep seeing.

As for seeing a doctor, my primary doctor is difficult to book for (it usually takes 3 weeks from making an appointment) and there are also slight money issues (a normal appointment is usually $60, and this doesn't cause any pain).

I've been put on the pill in the past for the same and other reasons but as the packet directs. I still think u should see someone else. The pill is used for lots of different reasons but I can't see how cutting out your period full stop would be beneficial to your body long term. Usually a dr would recommend a gyno or endocronologist for period sickness that bad. What does the packet say? Is it meant to be used like that or just the way this particular dr has decided to ask u to use it, yes eliminating your period will prevent pms or period sickness but I can't understand how you wouldn't at some point bleed as the body still coats the uterus in a blood lining? It would break off at somepoint you'd think. I'm not saying u should go just about the bleeding I'm saying I would ask why a dr thinks it won't be harmful long term to have a young woman not have a period, real or withdrawal etc.

Drs aren't infallible, that's all I'm saying.

Honestly I don't think it could be from sex, you'd feel it if u were cut and unless u have sores from an STD that are being broken it's not the sex.

Get advice from a doctor. Yours or another. I'd put money on it being some side effect of this solution to your period sickness. They don't know how all medications effect all people. Do u really want to chance your fertility?

All members are free to ask anything. Most people here exercise common sense and say "u should see a dr" but the onus is on the poster as to the decisions they make about their health. Most often than not people are asking about non life threatening ailments and womens issues that can be easily explained but obviously people know when they are in pain need prof help.

What this woman is describing sounds like breakthrough bleeding which comes from taking the pill continuously which her dr prescribed. Some drs think this is a good idea others not.
