Hi everyone. I’m a 44 y/o married man in need of some advice. I became a type 2 diabetic about a year ago, and have recently been experiencing some erectile dysfunction as a result. As you can imagine, the ED has impacted my ability to consistently have sex (intercourse) with my wife. My wife and I have talked about the situation and she has been super supportive, but deep down I know that she is a bit frustrated. Hell, I’m frustrated enough for both of us.

I know that we could try Viagra, but I have never been much of a pill person and really try to avoid taking medicines as much as possible.

Anyone out there been through a similar situation/experience? Thanks in advance.

My husband has had troubles now and then as well. Viagra works very well! It won't force him to have an erection when he doesn't want one. It makes it possible for him to have one when he gets aroused. So he does have to get aroused in order to get the erection. Buy the 100mg pills and a pill cutter. Cut each pill into four pieces. Have him swallow only one piece. Have him swallow it about 15 minutes before you need him to have an erection. Increase the dose to two pieces, etc only if you absolutely need to. Don't be tempted to purchase from shady foreign pharmacies, that stuff is fake. I wish there was also pill to make him cum more. If anyone knows of such a pill, let me know!

It's time to start thinking about sex beyond intercourse. There are lots of other fun things to do. ED is just a normal part of aging. Everybody gets it to some degree. If you can't maintain an erection or even get one, don't let that stop you from having and enjoying sex. Look at all the other things you can do. Time to start exploring.

How are you controlling your diabetes? With me it is pills. I take Metformin, Simvastatin, Losartan and Aspirin. I have to take pills to keep everything under control so I do. Taking something like Viagra is just something else - no big deal. I found that taking Levitra (which I could get on my medical plan) helped for a while, then seemed to become less effective. I had the same results with needle injections in the penis. If you get a good result, a penile implant (probably the inflatable type) may be the answer. Of course there are horror stories from those, too.

Another form of ED treatment used by many diabetic men is Muse. Rather that try to explain it, google "muse ed" for more information.

I too am type 2 diabetic and have been since 1997... thankfully it has not had any affect on my erections - but I have also heard that half a viagra will work wonders.
