    Please please please help me

Hi there. I'm 18 years old and have been with my boyfriend for 18 months. When we first tried having sex it was very difficult (almost impossible) and painful. I thought this was because it was my first time. I went to see a gyno and had ultrasounds. I was put on medication (I don't actually know what for ) This appeared to fix whatever was wrong and we were having great sex until recently. It has now become really painful for us to have proper sex. The pain I'm getting is external pain that stretches all the way to my bum sometimes. Penetration has been very difficult and there have been many times where i've had to stop. I thought that the problem was me being stressed about going to uni but it's still going on. This is really getting me down and at 18 you shouldn't be having these problems!. I would really appreciate any advice.
    Thanks.

Are you dry? Not sure what kind of pain you are describing.

The 1st thing that scared me is that you are 18 and have been having regular sex for 18 months...I must be getting old.

Anyhow, you need to go back to your gyno. Sometimes your body has a way of becoming immune to medication after you've taken it for a long time. There may be a different medication they could prescribe you...

When I said I was put on medication it was only for a short period of time I don't take it anymore.

I realised that I may have come across as a bit of a sex maniac when I said that I'd been with my boyfriend for 18 months. We did wait for a few months before having sex and we were both legal and we're still together and plan to stay together =]

I didn't mean it as a judgement of you, just more of a reaction o my initial reaction.

I'm 29 and being 18 and in love seems like a lifetime ago. Now, as a "responsible adult" my first reaction is "Oh my God, why is she having sex?!"...as long as you are being safe at all times and don't have to lie to the people you love, you are OK in my book.

If you only took the medication for a brief time, maybe it's time for another dose?

Either way, I would schedule another visit with the gyno. And although I'm a guy and will never truly know the experience of a gyno exam (I guess until I make my first visit to the proctologist) you MUST ask questions (no matter how embarassing it may seem) ...you HAVE to know what medicine you are taking and what it is for - it's your body!!!

You shouldn't have these problems. Nothing kills your great hormonal lust like mad pain during sex! Are you getting tears - like little paper-cut type rips - at the bottom of your vagina? You say the pain is external and goes to your bum - that are is the perineum. Have you looked at yourself down there with a mirror after sex, or after you feel the pain? To see if you are red, irritated, or cut?

One piece of advice: you ARE a big girl now, you'll be doing things your whole life on your own with no one with you... whenever you are sent for a test or put on medication, please make sure you ask until you know WHAT it is and WHY you are taking it. It's very important to know what you are putting in your body. You have to be your own best advocate.

Sorry I sound so nosy, but I have that problem occasionally. I get torn during sex, for no apparent reason. It took three doctors before I found one who knew what the hell he was talking about.
