As you can see I FINALLY found this thread.... WHEW that was a long journey I think the snow covered up the bread crumb trail and that's why I had such a hard time finding it. Everyone else reading this probably thinks I fell and bumped my head and I'm speaking jibberish but you Seeker know what I'm talking about.

Anyway.... I'm glad I made it to the thread... I guess in my message prior to reading this I rambled on about things that you have already researched and taken into consideration, sorry about that... a lot of unecessary reading I put you through. From the sounds of it you have the perfect ring and you are very knowledgable about the quality of the stones. I don't think my input is anything that you haven't already researched, took into consideration. You have done well Seeker.... carry on my friend. Oh... just one question... the saying "diamonds are a girls best friend" (which is so NOT true) but anyway... I read above the some of the ladies are more partial to different gems other than diamonds... Your lady... does she prefer a different stone or is she partial to diamonds? I know you are putting a lot into making sure that everything you do is special and that shows how deep your love for this woman is... just a thought.... what about designing the actual band yourself (if you are into that sort of thing) don't know how difficult it would be and it's merely a thought. Let me know how it all works out.

      Jaded,

Thanks sooooo much for making all of the effort to find this thread. Your ideas were great and appreciated. No, I didn't mind the "extra" reading that I had to do.

Yes, she's partial to diamonds, no they're not necessarily a girl's best friend, but she/we are traditional in some aspects of our lives. Even though we are well into our forties, I plan on asking her father for his daughter's hand. Hokey to some, in here perhaps, but it will mean a lot to him, as he and I have a special friendship.

I tend to be an over thinker and over researcher when it comes to things, rspecially those that are of significance. So that's why a forum like this is a perfect place to gather feedback, input and opinions.

I want the engagement and everything to do with it, to be as "perfect" as I can make it....

      Thanks again for your efforts!

many factors go in to a ring besides karat size, you also need to think color, clarity and cut. I am partial to marquise style that is what my engagement ring is/was. Now you can get a 7 karat ring but if the color and clarity are on the low side whats the point. Also certain styles of ring look better with larger or smaller diamond sizes. My ring was/is a solitaire, so I feel the diamond looks better on the larger size. Mine is about a karat and a half, eventually I would like to upgrade to 3 or 4 karats but again if the color or clarity are compromised he can just take it back. Also the size of your hands and fingers matter. If you have smaller hands you can get away with smaller stones larger hands in my opinion need larger stones.
