    I like what CW said and you might want to use that to explain it to him. However, there are some instances that explaining would help nor are there a lot of "graceful" ending of relationships. There is possibility to that but its a rarity. If you need to break it up, do so sooner as it would at least help you both not to invest much more than you already have. And as always, separations in any manner, would hurt but you both will make it through, you know that.

    And if you do split up, please do not jump into a relationship right away. Go to counseling and sort your own issues on your own, heal and be happy on your own. That way, you will find someone LATER whom you truly deserve.
