My boyfriend graduated from high school last year, and I was a freshman. And now I'm a sophomore, and I'm still here and I honestly thought it wouldn't be that bad when he left, since he promised we would FaceTime and email and everything. But today was the first day of school and I walked in and was so used to seeing him. I'm so depressed now. I miss him so much!! And I called him just now but it seems that he's in class or something. And he's all the way in California (I live in NY), so it's not like I can see him, really. I feel like I need to grow up, because I'm being a little baby. But my friends tell me to find someone new, and maybe farther from graduation year, but I can't seem to. I miss my Cali living bf too much right now!! Anyone stuck in a similar problem? I'm so sad!!!

Long distance relationships are very difficult. You should both be sure you don't make promises or have expectations that you can't meet. Realistically it is likely that you will each find other people while you are apart. If you find that you really were meant for each other then it would be easy for you to get together again when you are out of school. If not, then enjoy the time you had together - let it be a happy memory, not something that leaves you feeling like you've lost.
(easy for me to say, very difficult to do I know). -
If you contact each other on a regular basis, you can keep your relationship going, but he will have to travel back to be with you on his breaks. Are you accelerating your studies so you can start college a year early? Why did he go to a school in California? There are a lot of great schools in NY and nearby in New England, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided, and that is the lamp of experience.
...
Shall we gather strength by irresolution and inaction? Shall we acquire the means of effectual resistance by lying supinely on our backs and hugging the delusive phantom of hope, until our enemies shall have bound us hand and foot?
From a speech by Patrick Henry on March 23, 1775 at St. John's Church, Richmond, VirginiaComment
