I am sure things will work out, atskitty2. As long as he's not a player you're fine. Your friend will understand.

      astkitty2,

You're friend is existing in a fantasy. If he wanted to be with her, he would. But he wants to be with you. You want to be with him. That leaves the third wheel without an axle on which to roll. I'd suggest that she looks for a new dude. You enjoy him.

I think my friend is lonely, depressed and a bit jealous at times, and this just doesn't help. You're right, there are some fantasies in her mind, and it's borne out of the above.

I'm not willing to give up what's happening with this guy, but I'm also not sharing the details with her just yet. No point in waving it in her face either, until I know we're solid, then I'll tell her more.

She's having an especially rough time, this week and he even asked me to invite her to hang out with us. I declined, without telling him why.

You're right, atskitty2 to leave telling your friend about him until she's in a better state of mind. It will be hard to tell her, but she'll find out sooner or later: it is best coming from you. It isn't the end of the world to her, though: she is young, attractive and there are millions of guys out there who she'd be attracted to. As the saying goes, there're plenty of fish in the sea. You're young and she's young: it isn't the tragedy she might think. She'll move on, atskitty2.
