    Not sure what to think....

I've been in a relationship for 4 and a half years. We get along great, but on the odd occasion, he has told little white lies to me. I think I've been told another one but not sure how to blow this out in the open as I can't totally prove it.

Without going into past details, I'll jump right to the issue. The one night my boyfriend, let's call him Sam, told me he wouldn't be able to see me the following night as he had to go visit his mother.

The next night he called me around 10:00pm from his cell, I said wow that it was late for his mother to be up (she usually goes to bed early as she is very old). He said actually, when he left his mothers he got an unexpected phone call from Rog (who is a co-worker from out of town) and he wanted him to join him for dinner.

I said oh that was nice, then he added ya, him and his girlfriend just split up and he's lonely, blah, blah, blah so I had dinner with him. I kinda felt bad for Rog after hearing this and was glad that Sam did meet him.

About a month later, I saw his excel spreadsheet expense report and the details of that night was three people having dinner (Sam, C and Rog)with a dollar amount of $132.00 If he joined Rog and someone else, why didn't he mention the other person who was there?

I also couldn't figure out who C would be as there is no one that I can think of in their small company who's name started with C. Then it came to me, The only person I can possibly think would have that initial, is a girl that works with Sam and that C is the initial of her nickname that they call her at work.

Now, I ask myself, why did he not mention that she was there? There has been the odd time her name has come up, like the time Sam (who is the boss) gave her four and a half weeks off work to go on vacation to another country as everyone else in the small company is only allowed to take 1 week at a time.

Or the time after their company dinner they all hit the female stripclub and she was also there and I didn't find out about this event from either one of them, it was a third party who told me.

Other than that, her name doesn't really come up considering that she was basically recruited by me, as I used to work with her, until she took this new position.

She still sends me the occasional e-mail but has never talked about work other than if it's busy or not. Now back to seeing the expense report.

Firstly, I find it very convenient that he planned with me the night before to go visit his mother which he never does during the week. Secondly, if he was just ommitting her name from the equation because he thought it would upset me, why did he even go out for dinner with the two of them to begin with?

This Rog guy had called Sam occasionally and asked him to go for drinks but Sam has always said, maybe next time. So it's not unusual that he went for dinner with Rog but how did C get in this equation? The point I'm getting to is, there was a lie told right from the start and I feel this dinner was "planned". It's really bothering me that a lie was told.

Am I just reading more into this or should I let it go? I consider myself a confident person, but this is twice now that they have done something that I wasn't aware of, and I just feel like they do this and it's like a secret between them.

Also, how do I approach this second lie because I shouldn't really be reading his expense report, no matter where it's laying.

Well if the excel sheet was "laying" around somewhere, don't you think that that suggests that he wasn't hiding it? Nothing to hide?

Also, I feel that unless he is going out weekly and coming home with excuses, then a once off can't really spell an affair...

Only you can answer whether he is attentive, whether he is usually always home, and these two occurances are more one offs.

Perhaps you should advise us on how he has been around the home, and how often home over the past few months.

Perhaps this other guy is seeing C...

There are lots of explanations when you think about it.

And if you were to bring it up, I would do it jokingly... Ahhh so C was at dinner that night , busted haha, you shouldn't leave evidence around and smile. See how he reacts.

I wouldn't jump to any conclusions, but I'd do something like what WC said and bring it up in a joking manner to let him know u know. Guys seem to thrive on lies of omission. "Oh well, she didn't ask, and I didn't tell....I just left part of it out." To me....still deceitful. My first thought would be why did he omit that part? Obviously, you felt something odd about his behavior that night, because you mention it, right? About him going to his mothers which was odd at that particular time etc. Something made you feel that something was odd, and then he called you at 10, after dinner in which he specifically mentions Rog, but not C. Maybe he was just afraid you'd get upset, but regardless still not cool. I always tell guys I'm dating that I would rather hear the worst of news from their mouth and have a higher likelihood of getting over whatever it is, than if I find out they've been deceitful to me. There's a reason he didn't tell you she was there.

I guess my opinion differs from WC"s a bit on this one....and she's normally right, so maybe you shouldn't listen to me. lol. BUT, I'm very sensitive to omissions from men. I do agree with her that you should mention it but certainly not in any sort of upset way. Then maybe next time, he'll be more cool about it and just tell you.

Thank you for your replies. I should mention that we do not live together so the sheet laying around would not be planned for me to see. We do spend every night together, after he arrives at 8 or 9:00 from work where the staff have drinks and talk after hours. This is another issue that bothers me as, he called me once around 8:00 and said I'll be there around 9:00, I'm having a few drinks with Bill and Dave but in the background I could also hear a girl talking as well. When he arrived, I blantantly asked him if C was there, and he said yes. So why did he again ommitt not mention that she was there? Is it because he knows that's kinda not a cool situation for me? When he arrives every night I can't exactly quiz him as to who was there every night, so I just go with. I put my faith in trusting him. Who knows, maybe some nights it just ends up being the two of them finishing their drinks. I guess this is why I've presented this dinner thing because I can't quite figure out why this all took place outside the office when there is everynight after work time "In the office" , it also stikes me odd that of any of the people in the office that it was her and not one of the guys from the office that was there. Should C not be thinking that it's not cool to be attending after hours dinners with my boyfriend considering she was originally a friend of mine who got her the job? I think I'd feel a little uncomfortable going to a strip club and going for dinner with her boyfriend while she wasn't there, regardless of the work situation.

But do you think C would be happy seeing a guy at an office, or in a pub, or a quick dinner once in a blue moon for 2hrs a night?

Would he not catch her on Saturdays? During the day? Would he not spend even later, at her house in her bed?

It may just be that C is "one of the boys" and as such, he doesn't mention her as she is a girl.

I would firstly honestly, tell him that 8pm, 9pm every night only leaves you two with an hour or so before being tired and that you want to catch him after work, meet him there and have dinner.. Start changing that pattern real quick... That's not good for a relationship and no, he doesn't need to drink every night of the week with mates from work, that is not healthy, let alone makes it feel if it was me, that he prefers being with mates and eventually comes home to me, or he's an alcoholic, (they don't need to drink a bottle of wine a night to be one)...

Where is your life heading if he is partying nightly?

That's more to the point, there is some distance going on that shouldn't be.

              CW - Oops...my bad! lol

Karma - was the sheet lying around...or on his comp? Because if he just left it lying around, and he knows you're going to be there...then you shouldn't hesitate to mention it. But if you were snooping around, I can see where you'd be uncomfortable. But the thing is, if you were snooping, then you must've felt there was reason right? Intuition maybe?

Yeah, you'd think this girl would know that it's not really cool to hang out like that with her friends bf, but if it's totally innocent she may not thinking anything of it. Sounds like you need to find some way to talk to him about this......

Well, I'll say that Sam would not be too impressed if he knew I was drinking at night and going for dinner with other guys, especially friends that he recruited to my work. I know I usually treat people the way that I would want to be treated in return. This may be why he is lying. I'm still stuck on the fact that, he hid it from me, and if he did so because he knew I would get mad, why did he go to begin with? This Rog guy is definitely not C's type. And like I said, this seemed to be planned the night before. This girl has not mentioned anything about this to me, and as long as Sam knows that, wouldn't that make him feel good about her loyalty to him?

                  I smell a fish!

Rog is not seeing C. Do you know for sure if Rog really did have a split up with his girl, if not then there is another cover up. I find it hard to believe that if he did happen to call Sam about his break up that C just happens to be around conveniently too! I mean why? He made it appear that it was a guy thing and they were going to get together and blah, blah, blah about it!

Something is going on but to what degree, I've know clue. In my opinion, which is not worth much, you should just come out with it, I think CW's tho't on doing it in a jokingly way so as not to put any coals on the possible fire!

Why do men tell so many "lies of ommission"? Do they really believe we like the excuse "you didn't ask" more than "ok, I lied"? Either way, even if it is innocent, it makes it a breach of trust!
