wow such controversy about a word, is it really so offensive. i am also australian (hi cw). we have these trees that we used to call blackboys (because they're trunk is black) now we have to call them australian native grass trees, because it was offensive. sorry your wife offended you, but are you sure you've never made an issue of her colour?

If you expect your wife to not call you that then I would expect that you are not using the word also.

She, like anyone, has no right to use such a word NO MATTER what color they are!..If she is green and you are purple it would still be wrong. Period end of story, but I would caution that you do not set a precedent that it is okay to use the word(ah, but you are when you use it).

        Jazz
i have used the word on a few occasions and yes to a point it is my fault
Yep, I think that is what all posters above are stating....

I am tending to think that in reality, it was the "stupid", bit you didn't like the most, if you have used the word yourself, is it not more of that word that got your goat?

ok. i understand how jazz can get offended. by all means you kinda have a right. but you also have to rise above that. you did mention that you two were in an argument. sometimes people say things they don't really mean. you can't retaliate by calling her a c**t or a b!$% or anything like that. you have to set examples for your children that is around you when you two argue. you might not think kids don't know any better or they only know what mom and dad tell them. kids are smarter than that. and if they see you two arguing and calling each other unnecessary names and slurs they will also adopt that in their vocabulary. so i say be the better person; confront your wife in a non threatening way and explain to her you didn't appreciate what she said.
