    STILL HAVING THIS PROBLEM

Now I actually have reason to believe him. The other night I woke up to him yelling at me- I opened my eyes almost immediatly- I had one leg raised high up in the air..one second later and I would have kicked him pretty hard. It really did scare me because I had no control over myself and was very confused as to why my leg was there. My dream I was having seemed pretty real to me then.. In my dream I was climbing onto a table- hence in reality I actually did have a leg up in the air. Apparently previously to this I was sitting up in bed talking and swearing. I have absolutly no recollection.

I've done some research and found that this is called REM Sleep Behaviour Disorder aka RBD. REM stands for Rapid Eye Movement which is a normal stage of our sleeping pattern. REM is when we have our deepest sleep and most vivid dreams. I find this interesting because I tend to dream a lot and remember most of my dreams. Brain Activity during REM has been studied and found it is almost identical to "wakefullness". However, during REM the brain puts your body into paralysis which means we have loss of voluntary movement. The paralysis is almost absent in people who suffer from RBD which causes them to act out thier dreams. I've also read that RBD is most common in elderly men or as a withdrawal symptom from heavy drugs. I don't fit into either of these categories.

So is there anybody else out there like me? I would just like to know how other people deal with it and what kind of help they have gotten.

I might post this as a new thread in another topic window as well.

        Okay....

        Hypnotherapy...

I had one leg raised high up in the air..one second later and I would have kicked him pretty hard.
There are un-delying problems i believe that are making you have "nightmares" whilst you are sleeping...

You need to find out what they are so that you can "put them to rest" therefore yourself.

It's great that you are googling to try to establish what you can do, you obviously care for this man and also your well being.

But, if we are calm, happy in life, we sleep well, let's face it.

If your raising your leg and kicked him hard, it's like your running from someone, your trying to get away, your trying to protect yourself.

        Sounds stupid huh?

        But not......

Please try to avoid sleeping medication - it can have all sorts of side effects. My wife has tried yoga and it helped her sleep.
