I also know of some couples who have given swinging a shot, but I've never heard any of them rave about it. The only couple that I know personally has almost divorced a hundred times since they started it. They like the idea of the open relationship (the wife is bisexual), and she always talks about how great this and that would be. But then later, I keep hearing about her picturing her husband with the other woman and it makes her physically sick.

I'm rambling but my point is, if you have ANY doubt whatsoever about this, don't do it. This is definitely something you need to be completely sure about, not something to humor your boyfriend. A lot of couples who think they're okay with it often don't stop and REALLY think about the fact that this is their significant other having sex with someone else. I personally couldn't do that, but I'll never judge anyone who does otherwise. To each their own. Just be sure in whatever you decide to do.

Well, this thread is a little old, but if the OP is still around (or for anyone else interested), I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in.

I'm in an open relationship (although I haven't actually acted on it yet) and I'd have to say it's too confusing for me, honestly. I was ok with the idea of it but actually going through with it was a completely different story. I can't just have sex with a random person or someone I'm not incredibly interested in. I just can't separate sex from emotion. There have been several instances where I could have had sex with someone else, but I just could never go through with it. I guess I don't really have a problem with him engaging in it because I know he'll never be into someone else emotionally; he's quite good at separating "love" and sex.

However, if you're in a relationship and already think that it's not secure enough for an open relationship, you definitely should not do it. It's very easy to notice what another person has that your SO doesn't, and that can make a relationship quickly unravel. You've got to be completely, fully satisfied with all the important areas (such as compatibility, personality, goals in life, interests, sex style even, sense of humor)... if you're not, it's only a matter of time before one of you comes across someone who is compatible with you in one or more of these areas, and that's when trouble begins.

It will make your relationship stronger? WoW I'm going to try that when I get home and see how long it takes for me to get slapped. But seriously you are being very supportive by considering this for him. If you guys are already having problems adding more people to the equation will only make matters worse. Good Luck and Be Safe.
