Confused, hurt, any advice is appreciated...

I am new here but thought I would give it a shot. To be quite honest I am surprised that I am posting here. I tend to hold things in and let them fill within me, but I have come to the conclusion that is not healthy ether. So, I am seeking some advice about the man I am dating long distance. I will try to make this short and sweet, but I can’t make any promises.

We met a few years ago on a site, and talked briefly here and there during that time though nothing significant. Four months ago he im’ed me and said he had something he waned to tell me. It ended up being that he had liked me since the time we had met, but didn’t want me to think I was just another girl no the internet, and he didn’t think that I would be interested. He was way off on that, I had always found him intriguing and was happy to spend time getting to know him better.

We talked daily for a few months, the situation becoming more serious and feelings more intense, until one day he told me that he loved me and I said the same. It wasn’t something I ever intended on happening, but some things can’t be controlled, its nature not choice. It was amazing, talking every day, a few times a week on the phone for a few hours at a time, and the rest of the time spent video chatting and learning things about one another’s lives. He told me things I was surprised to hear, but happy to learn. I want to know all I can about this man, he’s like a book that is an amazing read and you just can’t get enough.

Honestly, it’s been the happiest few months that I have had in a very long time, and the most that I have allowed myself to open and feel for a person in an even longer amount of time. Something about him was so inviting from the start. He told me that brought his emotions out in him like no one has in a long time, and felt comfortable enough to share parts of his life that he doesn’t share easily. I knew that the middle to the end of summer was going to be hard. Seeing as his parents would both be visiting him for extended periods of time. There wouldn’t be a lot of free time between the, his son, and the fact that he works nights. I understood this, but also thought that there would be some effort put forth to continue the communication. I mean there was some, but not as much as I had hoped.

My texting him during the day slowed to a minimum as I was receiving mostly silence in return. This caused him to IM me one day and ask if I no longer liked him and if I have moved on. The question surprised me and I answered honestly that I hadn’t.

He said I hadn’t been sending him messages anymore, but that he hadn’t been doing it either. It was a nice conversation and this gave me a spark of hope that I wasn’t wasting my time.

In the mean time I had sent him a birthday present. It arrived late, and I knew it was going to, but since we hadn’t talked in several days I was starting to get fed up and messaged him to say, ‘if nothing else let me know when you get your package H texted to say that he loved his presents and that I was sweet, that he loved me.

I was still feeling a little leary of the situation at this point and as if I had put myself out there for no reason. So I wrote him a letter telling him how I felt and where I stood. Again, days went by and I didn’t hear anything.

Then last weekend he texted me and was being somewhat his old self and wanted to cam chat that night. It didn’t end up working out and I was disappointed.

My status was set to I give that night. The next day being Sunday he messaged me to ask if I had given up on him. I went on to tell him I was frustrated and that’s why that’s what my status said and it was also the reason for the letter.

He said he had gotten and it and that I was good at expressing my feelings and he wasn’t. Then he asked me that he hadn’t replied and that he didn’t know what I wanted him to say. I told him that I wanted to know how he felt and what he wanted, to which he replied that he didn’t know what to say, but that he loved me.

Since then we haven’t spoken at all. I messaged him to tell him that I needed to know what he wanted and what was going on and that he was pushing me away, but he never replied. I am a mess. I have no idea what is going on at this point. Not sure if I should just walk away, or to continue to be ignored. How can something change so quickly and how can someone be so selfish or cowardly to let someone sit and fall apart.

Maybe you should read over everything that you have read.....first have you ever spent physical time with this man? No matter how much you chat/video chat/text/speak to over the phone....it can not and will not suffice for personal face to face quality time.

I understand the convo is good but he is NOT responding....its seems like a horrible game to me...
If a person wants something they go for what it is they want. The least he could do is respond to you if not every message daily.
    Yes you should move on!
You know you should move on!

My SO has a full time job, he works out 1 1/2 every day some times more than that we don't live together and he still speaks to me 3-5 times a day minimum!

I also gather you haven't met this person.

He could feel it's fruitless... Different parts of the States/World, nothing will eventuate and has tappered off, excepting, he would/should explain this, I am also gathering your not 20 years of age, rather older as you say a few years.

In your conversations, did he have any long term relationships within this time? From when you first met on the dating site to now?

I personally, have been in a long distance realtionship and we talked every day as well for 5 months...

But, we also met and the "friendship" kicked in instead of souls .... We were able to discuss this like adults and move on...

This guy worries me, it's almost like he took a chance and liked the communication but has someone else now and is blowing you off.

If, that's not the case, then he has no consideration irrespective. You thank people for gifts not wait for them to ask.

You discuss contents of a letter, not blow it off with I love you.

Put it down to something you needed at the time, that has now expired and don't talk with him anymore..

If he can't properly communicate with you, then you aren't in any relationship at all, rather lust over the internet that dwindled away.

I am sorry you are going through this. But I think you know that when you love someone, the communication you have with them is not only by sms or email... And you may be mad at me for saying this... I'm sorry... But true love or even just a true friend doesn't treat you as he is treating you... A real friend doesn't allow you to treat yourself this way. True love brings many more smiles than tears... and that is not what I see happening here. I agree with Chandler's wish...and it doesn't sound like you are allowing yourself many other opportunities to meet other men because you are so caught up in what is happening with this one. You'd better find someone who treats you as you deserve to be treated.... And you will look back on this relationship and wonder why... I know that it will be difficult and that when he doesn't write to you you feel rejected, but that should make you strong enough to walk away...not to accept him each time he feels like returning to you. What about what you feel? So please...take time away from him...heal, look for the beauty around you. Go out with friends and laugh. Take your mind off of this and wait...your prince will come and treat you like his princess...

I think you guys are great friends but If you been communicating online for a few years but intense for a couple of months . never met and never made plans to meet face to face then you probably never will.

I mis spopke a bit about the presents, he hadnt received them, but as soon as he did he texted me, sorry I should have been more clear. I am in fact not in my 20's just a smidge older. I know that I need to walk away, I am just having a hard time doing that. We are supposed to meet in October, thats part of what makes it harder. It seems I am trying to hold on to all the amazing things he said to me and all the things he said he wanted with me.

I am not someone that allows myself to fall over men, and be vulnerable. For some reason, I wasn't able to prevent it. I truly tried not to care, and to keep a distance, but its obvious that didn't work. Thank you guys for you advice. Truly, I am trying to keep my head up and realize that I haven't done anything to be at fault, but my heart is trying to hold on, as much as I know it makes it worse.

While I agree with almost everything everyone has said--mainly, that you are being mistreated and should probably run the other way--I disagree with the idea that you can't have a real relationship online. I did, but the man died before we were able to meet, which was a tragic point in my life. We KNEW that we belonged together, and had he survived a complex heart surgery, I was going to move to Italy to be with him. I still have about 3000 saved emails, but haven't been able to bear to look at them since he died four years ago...

HOWEVER--my man was always totally honest with me, and he never jerked me around like your's is doing. Life is too short to throw away time on someone who, for whatever reason, is just not that into you--especially someone whom you've never actually met.

I'm new here too, but I'm a psychotherapist among other things, and I know whereof I speak. I also know that you are in a LOT of pain, and feel sad that you have to go through all that. But I guess you do. However, the sooner you let this one go, the sooner you can start healing and getting on with your life. Silence almost ALWAYS means lack of interest. Period. Sorry to be so blunt, but it's true. (And I did use the caveat "almost"...Obviously, stuff does happen sometimes that prevents people from communicating for a while.)

Cry your eyes out as long as you need to, sweety, but don't waste any more time on this guy!

Just my opinion, but based on a LOT of experience, both personal and professional.
