In my workplace, it's the men who are the emotional ones, mean gossipers, etc. I would much rather hide out in customer service than venture out onto the sales floor and try to interact there. The only lady I have a problem with is diagnosed bipolar ... and thinks she is "in love" with my boyfriend. Used to stalk him. All that. I've never had problems with the other female workers.
On the other hand, in leadership positions I have consistently had problems interacting with men. It's that ego ... they don't want to listen to a woman. If I were to ask a man in my workplace to do something over, that's when the tantrum would go down. Those under my direct supervision who are female may pout, but they'll do it without coercion or threat of discipline.
    It's all about individual people.

Who's in the power position? The "catty" women or the "more approachable" men? Those on top feel more secure and able to be gracious to the little people.

It shouldn't matter who is in a power position. Most people start near the bottom.

If someone can't handle that, it's their own issue.

Business is business. I think that's what a lot of people forget.

I agree to a certain extent OTYA re it shouldn't matter and how a person handles it but do think business is now more than just business.

Perhaps it's that way to shareholders and executives in large corps. (I deal with the execs all the time) but it's not so much like that with the "regular" employees. The majority of people spend a large part of their waking lives working (for many people in jobs where they're not feeling fulfilled) and I've seen in companies where employees are treated as more family then workers than those people work harder and are more dependable than others.

Everyone likes to feel respected and appreciated when they do good work so I believe the traditional business at all cost business models fall short in this arena.

I don't agree. Business should be business and business only. Business exists for the simple act of making profit. A public company is the property of the shareholders. The management intact should do their best to make profit for the benefit of the shareholders.

And so do executives. People seem to think just because someone has a seven figure salary they don't work hard. That couldn't be farther from the truth. For these people, work is their life. It isn't a 9-5. If people find themselves working in an environment they do not find agreeable they have the option to seek other employment

I agree. But like I said, business is business. It's not a therapy session or a talk around the campfire.

Not so much...I think its more a personality issue...I realize it sometimes takes a woman more hard work than a man to move up but I've always found that even with a female who is well-reputed and is awesome at her job and has over 10 or 20 years of experience is a lot more difficult to work with then a male practical student or a 1st year...thats not to say I havent met men at the top of the ladder who are terrible to be around...But, at least in an office atmosphere, I'd say from what I've experienced women seem to be more difficult to work with...

I worked for the government for 16 years. I no longer work there because it was all women. It was an excellent job with great benefits but not worth the stress it caused me. I vote for working with men. My new job is 90% men which is great!!!!

I do agree that, going by my experience, men are way easier to work with. I do think it depends on the atmosphere and dynamic of where you're working though. At my current job, I deal with mostly women and they're all great. I like them a lot, they're very professional and just deal with their jobs without letting personal crp get in the way.

But at my last job, and the one before that (which I was at for 3 years).... the gossip and static was ridiculous. It was mostly women at these places, and everyone talked behind everyone else's backs. You would here everyone whispering on their phones at their desks but hear the random "she"s and "her"s. Drove me crazy! I'm much happier keeping my personal issues seperate from my work. Granted, there have been plenty of guys that are d-bags as well, but more often than not, they're dolls and are just there to do their jobs.

G&S when I was working in an office environment I had similar thoughts. Many of the women seemed to be geared towards gossip and generally being sweet to the face and catty behind the back. The men though tended to be more reserved and for the most part just did their jobs and left.

I suppose every situation is different but even now when I travel, I find the men to be more cordial and engaging and the women more critical and I feel as if they're always examining my dress, or makeup, shoes, how I cross my legs, etc. etc.

Everytime we go out, its funny to see women giving the woman the up and down.

Yea - that's the look from your shoes up to your hair. Why do women do that?

The men just stare at her butt.
