I'm mad about something new now. haha
I kid, I kid. But the skis certainly weren't the reason I got over it, you know. Although, I did feel like I didn't have the right to be mad when I got some big gift. Maybe that's what's bothering me.

I think I know where you are coming from on this. When you aren't used to being treated much like you count (not necessarily from him) and he's given mixed messages - says don't spend and then spends and you'd had a bit of a tiff on top of it, it's confusing. Apparently whatever you were upset abouthe doesn't regard as deal breaker and he must really want to spend time with you learning to cross country.

Learning to receive isn't as easy as it sounds, is it?

Ultimately your call, but I think it was an incredibly sweet gesture I haven't had a guy do anything that nice for me since like 2006, and it still wasn't *that* nice. Enjoy it

Give him a thank you B.J. (lol jk!) Accept it. It's not about money. Enjoy your time together and maybe plan a surprise V-Day getaway. You shouldn't think about the gifts as trying to "outdo" each other on the gift giving. Sometimes it's the little things that count more.

some people are great at giving gifts to others, but dont want to splurge on themselves and are horrible at receiving gifts.

i think you said that he got himself 2nd hand stuff and bought new stuff for you.

if that's the case, he obviously cares about you an awful lot and just wants the best he can for you. i can see you being thrown off by his actions, but you should be mad for real. he loves you.

i second what yellowpixie3 suggests, minus the jk part.

I asked him what he wanted last week and he told me he'd like some clothes but only to go to the 2nd hand shop! It's true, I'm bad a receiving gifts so I"ll just have to suck it up, haha.
He brought me a bunch of workout clothes that didn't fit him yesterday. So I think I'll go get him some that fit. ...and give him a b/j as per yellow's suggestion.

just noticed my typo. I meant not mad for real.

i am glad you aren't mad at him.

What a lovely gesture, yes, I am agreeing with everyone else to just accept it, as it may seem a bit odd if you take it back.
Hope you have fun on your ski trip with all your new gear xx
