Depending on the laws where you live, the longer the marriage, regardless of living arrangements, the more likely one or the other could be entitled to a portion of things like retirement accounts. The sooner he gets this over with the less there is to come back to bite him. BUT this is his show. Consider watching this play out to be a forewaring of things to come with him. If you end up in a long term relationship or marriage with him don't expect him to be more decisive or to face and deal with difficult things well. -
I agree WC. I am definitely keeping this in mind and keeping an open eye to see how he deals with other issues as well.
I do think BD hit it on the head when she said that he thinks of it merely as a formality. In his mind, they are not reconcilling and there are just some issues (mainly a house in a crappy housing market) to be dealt with. I am optimistic (or trying to be
) that he will really make sure he stays on this and gets it done at this point.
As far as how he will handle things in the future, only time will tell that. I think at this point, I just want to be able to see how we can grow together, how we deal with things together, and how he feels when the divorce *really* is over. I want to be aware of things that may be potential issues later, but at this point, until this is final, I am at a stand-still of sorts about what's going to happen in the future as far as he and I are concerned. If you smile when no one else is around, you really mean it.
