To move or not to move...that is the question.

Alright, so my boyfriend was offered a job a while back. He turned it down because it is out of state and I had a job I liked and he had owned a house at the time. Well, he no longer owns the house (long story) and I was let go from my job due to budget cuts. So here's the thing. The people who offered him that job a while ago, called him up again and offered more money. LOTS of money. It's out of state though. Since I don't have a job right now, nothing is holding me here anymore. He wants to move and take that job and wants me to go with (we're serious and talk about marriage), but that's kind of scary to be away from everyone I know and love. Anyone have any advice or words of encouragment?

I think you could definitely give it a shot. It's hard to move away from loved ones, but it also forces you to make new friends, new connections, experience things you wouldn't otherwise... I think everyone should make a big move some time in their life. If it doesn't work out, you can always move back home. But at least you would have given it a shot instead of wondering, what if. I say go for it. Timing seems to be perfect!

Thanks Mes_T, I think you're right. The timing is perfect. I guess just a little scary.

I'd say go for it. As long you don't have any red flags in the relationship. Do find a job when you get there so you aren't totally dependent.

Yeah, go for it. And, it's not that difficult to keep in touch with people these days... phone, email, IM, even video chatting. You could make arrangements to fly back home at least twice a year to visit, and I'm sure you will meet some new people where you move (just don't forget about the old people).

Well I just found out last night that he would have to sign a 3 year contract... 3 years is a long time.

It's scary when you look at the negatives, but not the positives...

This is his chance, to make a very good living, 3 years of it, imagine the savings? Imagine if you do get married, there is security there...

The negative is friends/family, skype is a good way to keep in touch with loved ones...

This is your chance, both of you to get somewhere in life...

You could always come home, if things didn't work out, whereas, he will not get this opportunity again, and as I said, this is your chance together to make it...

              Go for it....

See the positives in this, and work around the negatives...

You know, you'd be surprised how fast 3 years does go by... sounds like a long time but it's not really. Best of luck.

I think you should get engaged if you are going to follow him their. Its a big move for you and I think you both should make a outward sign of your commitment to each other.
