Age is but a number, right?

There's a guy that I met from the internet, (I know this sounds sketchy, but we have friends in common. I'm not that naive,) and we've recently become really good friends. We've met in person, by the way. He says that I'm really neat. We have conversations about stuff that I'm afraid to tell other people. He's said that he's started to really like me. At first I didn't know how to react because I had recently decided that I wasn't really interested in anyone and that I was too stressed out to deal with this stuff anyway.
Well, I've decided that I'm starting to like him too, but not just because of flattery, and I jus realized that he didn't know my age. I said "You're aware that I'm almost two years younger than you right?" (Age doesn't really matter as one get's older I suppose, but 14 and 16 seems like a huge gap.) He seemed kind of shocked, and said that he thought I was 16, (not that I look 16 at ALL,) and then eventually said that it didn't matter...
I'm just not sure if he thinks of me the same way though. I know how some people are.... what do you think I should do?
By the way I know this may seem a bit... dumb... but it makes me feel a bit better just to see what others think. And I AM a ton more mature than people give me credit for, not to seem like a jerk, hahah.
    Thanks!

yeah, a 2 year age difference is not a big deal at all. Age differences will become less and less important as you get older. Personality and intellectual compatibility is more important.

Thank you, I kinda know this already, but it makes me feel a lot better hearing someone else say this, you know? My mind works a bit funny like that.

14 and 16? I don't see that is a major big deal either. Freshman--junior? No biggie, just be careful.

14 and 16 no biggy... Apart from one side of the coin Naturally, sexually as 14 is a minor and he can get into alot of trouble if that transpires and is found out, as in legally in trouble...

Can I ask what type of conversations you two have been having which you daren't tell your friends ?

            Hey

2 years isn't bad at all. As long as you like him and he likes you then seems like a good thing . My bf and I are over 10 years apart and we get along very well so it just depends on what you two are like with each other, i say go for it, but only if your ready for a relationship.

I think two years is not a large age gap. Especially once you are over 18, it's not even discussed as an issue.

At 14 and 16 there might be issues, mostly because there will be some changes in your lives very quickly. The 16 year old may want to move to college, and that may put a serious strain on the relationship. Also, there is the sexual aspect mentioned above.

I would be aware of these things before getting into the relationship. I don't know very many people who are still dating the same people they were dating at 16, 17, 18 years of age.

              Take care of yourself.
