A couple of thoughts that piggy back on the thoughts given by my friends above......

Is your lady friend fond of Vegas? Generally, it's either a love it or hate it kind of thing and I'm not so sure that Vegas is the most romantic place in the world to propose (IMO) but only you really know your lady.....

Vegas is beyond HOT in August, it's freakin' scorching....

JNS gave you some great alternatives and perhaps even more romantic spots to think about.....I think he meant Hoover Dam. Laughlin, NV is awesome. Oatman, AZ is a quaint old mining town. The Grand Canyon is one of the eight wonders of the world for obvious reasons..... Either national park is also very good. So perhaps you could use Vegas as your "base" and go else where from there.

As for the dog and packing for her..... Being familiar with that kennel helps, but it's still her dog. She may not want you to assume that you can just board the dog any old time you feel like it. Some people are very very fond of their dogs and tend to like to make their own decisions about their own dog. Same with packing, a nice thought, but I guarantee you that you will forget something that she would have taken, or you'll pack too much or too little or the wrong sandals, etc.

Women, more so then men (IMO) like to think about where they're going, think through their closet and chest of drawers to find just the right clothing items. They also have a certain way of packing things...We all like what we all like in just the way that we like it.

So, liike someone said above, I might "surprise" her with a "last minute" trip to Vegas and beyond but allow her to make arrangements for her dog and allow her to pack her things for the surprise trip.

Her ideal proposal is the man she loves, on one knee, in beautiful surroundings and an intimate setting....intimate meaning just you and her...expressing the love you obviously have for her by asking her to marry you.

Like me, you are obviously a thinker, a planner and a bit of a control freak (I think). Sometimes, we think too much, plan too much and get caught up in our desire to have everything "perfect".

In the simplest of terms, you are asking for her hand in marriage.....it doesn't get any more perfect that!
