My boyfriend said he was okay with my decision to stop taking it. I'm also scared of doctors, so I'm afraid to get the pap smear, because the last time I had that test, it hurt and I bled. I just haven't had much sex drive. A couple times I did, and I suggested trying condoms, but my boyfriend isn't crazy about condoms. He'd rather I just go back on the pill, but I don't really want to right now. He's been really patient with me... but I think he's starting to get disappointed with the lack of sex, and my lack of desire to be on birth control.
Just earlier today, I saw an article on a type of reversible male birth control that's being developed that doesn't harm hormones or sperm production, and I thought it was interesting. I mentioned it to my boyfriend, because we're generally interested in science and technology news. I asked if he'd be open to it if it became reliable, safe and available, but he is pretty much totally against the idea of male birth control. I love my boyfriend dearly, and I really appreciate how patient he's been with me, but at the same time, I'm a little frustrated that I'm the one who's expected to deal with the discomforts of birth control. He's starting to get just a little impatient waiting for me to decide to take birth control again, but I'll do it when I'm ready. I'm disappointed by his disinterest in using condoms, and his immediate aversion to male birth control. I feel like I shouldn't have to be the one responsible for preventing pregnancy... it should be both of us.
I dunno... this just bugged me a little bit. He's a really wonderful guy and I love him dearly, and this kind of thing is a little unusual for him, honestly. We always have such a "we're in this together" attitude about everything, I guess I feel sad that he expects me to be on birth control, despite the fact that it has side affects. I feel guilty and sad. Anybody else have similar experiences?
Best wishes to you on this!
