That's incredibly true. This is a very hard thing that I need to do because, as I said, I do care about him and I hate knowing that I am going to cause a lot of pain in his life. But I have to do it because it's for the better in the long run.

You're right, I do want to be single. I am not leaving him for anybody else. I am not leaving him with the fantasy that I'll even find anybody else. I'm doing it so that I can reconnect with myself and not feel that I have to live under standards that somebody developed for me when I was 15. I'm leaving for the freedom to be Me and to know what that means.

Oh, and to answer this.. there is that guy I mentioned before who is in a class with me. I haven't really spoken to him because of my situation. I just find him incredibly attractive. He is always trying to lock eyes with me in class and the few times that I have, it made my head float and for the next few days I would be thinking about him. I would be interested in getting to know him as a person and friend, but for right now I don't think I would want to be anything but single. For sure!
That's it...Why do you ask, though?

I was just thinking, if you didn't want to be single again as alot of girls don't like being alone, maybe you could at least try to be with someone you like who you're already attracted to and who you get on well with

I was in a relationship like what maybenotnow describes. Her feelings sound just like mine. I got into it when I was 14/15 years old. It was my first real romantic relationship. I simply outgrew it. My feelings changed. There was no one else, I just needed out.

There was no abuse, mistreatment, or even one argument. But once I got out the freedom was invigorating. It was like coming up for air after being underwater for a little too long. I remember running around the house excited with being single again.

Wow, really?! How long were you two together for? How did you go about breaking up with him?

We were together for over a year. It wasn't as serious as yours since we didn't live together and weren't together as long. I broke up with her by telling her most of the truth. I thought she was a great and beautiful person and a good friend. I liked her and enjoyed spending time with her, but I didn't think we were a good match.

What I didn't tell her was that, as beautiful as she was, she bored me. I'll never tell her that. It's how I was able to leave her with dignity and remain friends until this day. It's why I think that what you don't say is as important as what you do say. Tell them enough to make a clean break, but not so much that you leave them feeling more inadequate and crushed than you not wanting them will in and of itself.
