Do you stay friend's with your friend's ex?

My friend's ex left him pretty bad. She treated him terribly. She is a really nice person and somebody I would enjoy being friends with. Right now we are only FB friends, but ever since she broke my friend's heart, I don't even interact with her on FB.

What do you do? Stay friends with the friend's ex? Unfriend her on FB? Interested to know what other's do in these circumstances. I could just leave her as a FB friend and not interact too much with her.

I have hesitated to respond to this thread because my answer will highlight the bad side of my personality.

In your stated scenario, there is no reason for you to interact with her because you have a negative opinion of her. Unless your friend needs you to shun her with a statement, I wouldn't unfriend her on Facebook. It will only cause tension. However, loyalty to the friend would greatly impact my decision making.

It's the slightly different scenario that my normally rational temperament leaves my brain. My family regularly interacted with my ex during an incredibly nasty divorce (she, of course, was the nasty one). My sister had the audacity to even question positions my lawyer had taken b/c my ex had cried to her. Still does six years later. No matter how much I talk, cajole, beg and plead, I cannot get my family to just end the routine contact. I view it as extreme disloyalty and it almost destroyed my relationship with my sister. I know . . . pure pettiness. Sigh.

How recent is this breakup? I'd leave it for a bit, do nothing. They may reconcile, or not, or you may gain more info about her/him/the situation. I wouldn't think too much of it, take any action and just see what happens.

The breakup was a year ago.

She is a really interesting smart person, but emotionally dis functional when it comes to relationships. Kind of reminds me of myself. It's not often I find people I'm interested in. My friend has moved on. They are not getting back together. But he is still FB friends with her. I don't think he would be mad if I was friends with her. But just the fact she really hurt my friend makes me mad at her.
