My ex was physically abusive almost every month, plus he drank every day
but he got angry and threw a chair on the floor saying I'm stupid for bringing it up right before he goes to work...
Physcial abuse, emotional abuse, verbal abuse, throwing tantrums, there are issues, he needs to sort those out...

You can't save the World and you can't save him..

His own family are aware of his addiction, he's addicted to the internet, to chatting to women, to feeling important, be it male or woman, stripper, or homosexual, old friend, or new.

How are you going to solve that?

He needs councelling, to sort out why he feels he needs so much attention...

He needs councelling, to sort out why he can't cope and has to drink to feel better.

    And:-

He needs councelling, because now he is throwing chairs around the room, as he can't be "told off".

    And:-

He needs councelling, because he cries at 36 and begs you to stay, yet keeps the other's on the checklist as well, never closing any doors....

He wants a baby because he is feeling he's getting older, yet he's acting still like a child, throwing tantrums, rebelling against you, ignoring the importance of commitment and a loving relationship for self-destruction.

If you really want to help him and stay with him, take him to a councellor to get help for all of the above, so he can work it out for himself and see that life isn't that bad and that drinking, or addictions of any kind aren't the solution to his problems.
