I went through this exact situation with my husband except it was a little different. When we first got married he really didn't want kids period due to the childhood he had growing up. He had insecurities about being a good father. He knew from day one I wanted kids and this put a hardship on our marriage. Finally after he and I got our B.A's he started to talk about it a little more then threw another factor into the mix, wait till you get your M.A then I promise we will start. Well true to his word about 4 months before I was to get my M.A we started trying. Just like us women men have their reasons as well and now, I am 9 months pregnant, I am glad we waited because I honestly know he wasn't 100 percent ready for a baby. He still have his moments and trust you me while pregnant I was ready to walk away, but the closer I get the better he gets about preparing to be a father. Not sure how old you are but we were married 10 years before we started trying and we are 32 so I know its hard baby fever started hitting me at age 26 and here I am finally pregnant! -
I've had some really good talks with my husband since my last post. Which proves to me, again, that I should just talk to HIM instead of posting on forums haha.
I opened up to him and told him how hard it's been for me to wait because I feel the instincts kicking in and he said "Well, you only have to wait until May." I've had to "teach" him a lot about the female reproductive system and during one of our baby talks, I told him how it can often take several months to conceive...so I guess that made him decide on late May. I think we did have a talk about trying a few months before August/September, but it felt like a "maybe" kind of talk instead of a definite plan.
So I feel better, not only because of that but also because I finally told him how I felt. It felt awful keeping that from him and lying to him when he asked what was wrong or if I was ok when I was having a hard time.
He also told me that he's really excited to start trying in May. So he's definitely not trying to delay because he doesn't want kids. I KNOW he wants kids and no one can tell me differently. If he didn't want kids, he'd tell me. Plan and simple.
I feel a lot more at peace now. Even before the whole "May" discussion. I realized I need to cherish our time together now...so I am.
Thanks for the support

1teacher: I'm 24 (birthday is in June) and my husband is 27. So I/we may be relatively young, but we feel we're at that point in our lives and marriage where we want to start a family soon. We have a strong marriage - we went through intense pre-marriage counseling and we just communicate really well (aside from the moments where I'm "scared" to talk to him about certain things like babies haha). We always deal with arguments and conflicts immediately.
And I've always wanted to be a mom. For as long as I can remember - even before being married - people have told me what a great mom I'll be and that I have a "mom's heart". For some women, having a career and being successful is important...for me, being a mom is important.
Thanks for the support and congratulations on your baby!!Comment
