This situation will not get better, it will only escalate. I was in an abusive marriage for 18 years -- physical, mental, and emotional abuse. It was a roller coaster of a couple years of good, a couple years of bad but the last 2 years were very bad. I made plans to escape.
Over a matter of weeks, I secretly packed what I would need -- things he wouldn't miss. Now, you have to be very brutal with yourself, only take what you need! All else is either not necessary or is replaceable. Then my daughter bought me a one-way ticket to her town and I left while he was at work -- a neighbor drove me to the airport.
Find someone you trust completely to help you with this! Do not be ashamed to ask for money or help in any way. You have nothing to be ashamed of -- HE does!Comment

I really wish society would provide safe housing, food, etc for anyone who needs it, no questions asked. I absolutely that someone can be in a situation where they honestly see no way out. The existing shelters are so awful that they really aren't much of an option for someone with a child.
Abusers frequently separate their victims from their friends and family, leaving them with no place to turn.Comment

You need to speak to an expert in your area that knows about the resources that are available to you. Is there a women's shelter around your area. You don't have to enter it, but you could talk to the staff there. They deal with these situations all the time and can provide you better advise on your next steps.
Your husband can't take your child away just by saying it. It is a lengthy court process and they usually favor the mother. Plus, he would have to show that he has somebody to care for the child. When you do leave, you can go to the local police and file a complaint saying you fear for your life and how your husband threatened you. The police won't arrest him or anything, but its on the record so if you are in a custody battle, that will be on the record.
I know this is all easier said than done. Start researching local support groups and organizations for battered women. You need to do your reseach to be able to get out of there. Look for work and cheap day care option. Like I said before, start saving some money secretly.Freedom is just another word for nothing left to lose - Kris Kristofferson and Fred Foster (sung by Janis Joplin)Comment
