On another thread awhile back i mentioned a polyamorous relationship in which I was involved for about a year. It worked well then for the three of us involved. Whether it would have worked well over a more extended period, I am not so sure.

None of us involved then had children. I could see that adding an awkward dimension. Stillness mentioned pregnancy in the initial post. The two women with whom I shared a household and I each had employment and somewhat similar incomes. We shared housing, food and other costs in equal shares. What if one had become pregnant and taken months off work? Would the other woman and I have covered her required contribution in equal shares. Would the child have been hers too? Or would she have looked at us and said something like: "That kid has nothing to do with me and I am not going to let it cost me anything." Would the pregnancy/birth have given rise to some jealousy?

Above, I referred to sharing expenses. If someone who was expected to contribute lost their job, I could see that being more difficult to address in a poly household.

No doubt such issues are worked out in some polyamorous relationships, but I am happy not to have been required to grapple with same.

I am now in a long-term married monogamous relationship and I feel in no way deprived.
I do not grow old; if I stop growing, I am old.
