Wow. Maybe that was what was causing the problems from the beginning. A couple weeks ago you had blood tests. None of the tests gave any indication of diabetes? I find that strange but I have been tested regularly to keep my type 2 diabetes in control. My first indication was high numbers during a physical in Thailand (the second time I had one there because the cost was around $100 and was done the same day, the first physical maybe four years earlier was fine.) Covid-19 has hit diabetics and near diabetics especially hard. I think I have read where it has caused some people to become type 1 as it has shut down internal insulin production. I hope you are feeling better now. Any peripheral symptoms such as low or no sensation in your feet? Best wishes.

yes, I think Dr appt was early May with blood tests? it did show diabetes.....Dr suggested insulin but I was scared so asked for metformin which was starting to work (somewhat)
no idea what happened to make bs so high & cause me to pass out
all I can say is thank goodness the neighbor called husband & he got my brother to check on me & he called ambulance

diabetes educator said I'm "type 1" cause I don't fit type 2 pattern

Are you going to be on a pump? A friend at work told me that they work pretty good. Since the doctor didn't start you on several medications, he or she must have thought that your diabetes was somewhat controllable with only Metformin. I'm on Metformin, Glipizide and Jardiance. Metformin reduces insulin resistance. Glipizide causes more insulin production. Jardiance lessens the reabsorption of glucose that has been filtered out by the kidneys. On one trip I was out of Glipizide due to my miscalculation. I was able to buy Glimepiride over the counter as a replacement but I had to dose it myself as my doctor didn't get back fast. I initially took too large of a dose and had to counteract going low but I figured it out fast.

I insisted on metformin cause thought insulin would hurt but it doesn't! Asked Dr if I could control bs with food but he said "you will never get off insulin" Going to get the smallest "arm thing" so I don't have to prick fingers daily. Need to do insulin before each meal & one extra (long lasting) with morn meal.

I've been eating 2 meals/day since 2019 so having trouble going to 3 meals but they said I have to eat 3 meals. Feels like I'm forcing myself to eat!

Type 1 means your body is producing no insulin or just a very small amount. Metformin won't help in that case. Insulin will be your lifeline. Knowing how many carbs you will eat and taking the right dose of insulin will be very important. I eat two meals a day and have for several decades. I found that following the recommended three meals a day caused me to gain weight and have worse numbers. My career job started early in the day and eating at that time would often cause me to have an upset stomach so I would eat at 9 am break and then in the evening. Even now with being retired I still eat two meals a day. Keeping weight down as much as possible is an important part of keeping in control of my numbers for me. Learn the symptoms of going low so you know when you have to intervene before having a problem. Sometimes it feels like you are low but testing says no. Sometimes you are low and don't really feel it. I generally prick my left hand little finger twice a day before meals. I have no problem with pricks, needle jabs or seeing blood.

I also hate eating first thing in the morning, but have to because of my meds. Protein shakes are life-saving for me. One with 20g of protein will keep me going all day.

woo-hoo! husband put a libre (sp?) on me
he called & got last one at giant eagle....it just has to be scanned to get blood sugar
so happy about that cause he's going back to work after taking some time off (he was pricking me)

he was trying to get me to give myself pin pricks & I was SO resisting & then I accidentally pricked myself! glad don't have to do THAT daily

It sounds like you got a FreeStyle Libre 3. I read up on it and it is a monitoring system but it is not integrated with any pumps yet. Are you manually injecting insulin?
