    Looking up!

Things are started to look up with me and Shrek. I stayed in Villa Nueva with him for two weeks and just got in yesterday.

I didn't talk to my husband about my plan until we were on our way to Xela again... He came up with me to spend a week or two because I have a volunteer job coming up and he has to watch Novali. Anyways...

Last night when we got here we he started to talk about his plan. I was shocked! He actually made a plan for our future... I'm not joking when I say this, but this is the first time he ever made a plan since we've been together, even our wedding was planned in two days since he kept saying 'we'll talk about it later'.

I'm so happy!! ...oh yeah, and the plan includes us living here in Xela.

Now his mother wants to kill me. Every time Shrek left me alone with her she started on me; "You're not good enough for him," or "He won't accomplish anything with you around," and even "Without me around, y'all won't last".

She insulted me with everything she could, and even said how much she wished sherk had married his ex-girlfriend... who actually cheated on him with his best friend (the husband of her bestfriend - soap opera anyone?). After awhile I got up the nerve and began to talk back, keeping things fairly respectful, of course, but reminding my MIL that I love her son and that I deserve a bit of respect.

So that's how things are going with me... I don't really give a darn about how mother in law treats me so long as she is good to Novali. I'm so happy that Shrek is being so wonderful though, and I still can't believe he made plans!!

    ...sorry, wrote another book..

      Good stuff.

And in my opinion, you don't need to put up with that rubbish from a MIL.

I agree with Anon. She sounds awful, you shouldn't have to put up with that. Maybe when things are a bit more stable with your husband you can have a chat with him about it. Your daughter really shouldn't watch someone disrespecting you like that. I'm glad you stood up for yourself though.
Good luck with everything and I hope it all works out.

I would fear for my life if I had a Latina mother in law. I'm not good at sharing my "toys," so to speak, and I don't think I could stand to marry into a culture where family is so important. Good on you for resisting the mean treatment!

I never realized many culture differences until after I got married... then it all hit me... and hard!

My mother in law had been great for awhile, she loved me when Shrek and I were just dating, hated me during the wedding and after wedding, loved me again when things started to settle in, hates me every time something changes.

She keeps crying about how he won't be able to 'handle' being in a different place, even my husband is not used to change - and really hates change - where I, being an army brat - adore moving, exploring and experiencing new things and places.

Luckily I will now live 4 -5 hours away from my monster in law and only have to see her once a month ---- if I even decide to go!!

              Happy, happy me!

There should be only two people in your marriage, you and your guy. She will always be his mother but you are his future.

                Good for you.
