For starters I was refered to Dr. Sheila Connery of USF Medical at Tampa General. She was the only person that the VA had listed for a referal. She turnned out to be a great doctor. My proceedure was done on 17 Sep 2009. I was very nerveous the day of and nearly fainted when I first woke up and threw up once before taking the vicoden. The vicoden hit me hard on the way there and I had to lay down in the parking garage at the hospital. Security drove me to the building and I fell down in the elevator. My friend carried me to the waiting room and I had to crawl to the bathroom and threw up again.
Didn't start out fun but once they got me in the room and I was able to lay down I was fine. They gave me a high dosage of ibuprofen in the arm and a shot of lidocane in the cervix. Fifteen minutes later They started the proceedure. Since I never had kids they were afraid they would not be able to open my cervix much like what happened with sassychica. They had some difficulty and were going to try to use a smaller device to open it but she managed to finally get it open with the standard one. It hurt more than anything else. They slowly worked the device in and inserted the 1st coil which had five threads left out. I felt a slight pinch when it went in. The other side was a bit more difficult. They finally got it in and 2 threads were left out and I didn't even feel it go in. After they yanked everything out I felt much better. The crampy pain went away. I went home, took a nap, and woke up feeling like nothing happened.
The spotting stopped the morning of the third day. I was able to start running, doning sit-ups, and push-ups again. On day 9 I started my period which was a bit different than normal. It started out with the thick dark blood like you normally get the last day and on the second day I began having cramps but not as bad as normal cramps. The bleeding was also a bit heavier than normal. I have a follow-up on 16 Oct 2009.
A few things I would suggest is to research your doctor. I've seen websites where the proceedure was done in some strange places and a lot of people are having doctors who aren't familiar with the side effects of the Essure. Look for specialties. My doctor also specialized in abnormal bleeding which made me feel better in case something happened. Also, use a cold compress on your abdominal region for a few days afterwards to help with the inflamation. It works better than Ibuprofen. Keep an open-mind when you go through these forums and don't believe everything. I'll update as I go along. Best of luck to everyone.
) and also a 20% disability down my right hand side when it gets out of hand.
Still using birth control. I have my one month follow-up on Friday so we shall see how that goes. I'm still feeling great and very active.
