Morning Went in for the HSG test I am blocked and it was a success. I do want to comment I was in so much pain and cried the whole time. I even told the doctor to stop I can not go through with this procedure. After they got the tools in the pain was unbarable and the doc said she hasn't even started and then when she put the dye in I wanted to jump off the table.
The doc talked me through it all and was very nice and so was the assistant she got me a wet rag and kept calming me down. The service I receive was excellent but the procedure itself was horrible.
I took 500 mg an hour prior then 30 minutes prior a valium and hydrocodone and I was still in pain. I am in bed with my legs proped up now.

I am 29 years old and I have one child. I had him at a very young age and have known for many years that I have not wanted any more children. I did research on my own and found out about this procedure. I discussed it with my doc and she agreed to proceed. She chose to do this in the hospital as an outpatient procedure. I showed up around 8 am and was done and ready to go home around 10 am. I had some slight cramping that was alleviated with Ibuprofen. I also had light spotting for about 2 weeks. Three months later I had the HSG (which was very painful by the way) which showed complete blockage of my tubes. This was 4 years ago and I have not had any problems at all. I am very happy with the way this turned out and believe it was the right choice for me.

I believe there is a large population (I believe it is close to half a million by now) out there that has had the essure procedure and it was successful. When you choose to have any type of procedure you are agreeing that you understand that there are risks associated with said procedure. I do understand how frustrating it can be when those complications happen to you, but that is not to say that it can or will happen to everyone. Most of these posts that I see online are about people complaining but that is only because they have something to complain about. People who have had a successful procedure are happily carrying on with their lives.

Just wanted to add my two cents here to let people know there are success stories. Any questions just ask. Thanks!

Here is my personal experience with Essure. I chose Essure because it is permanent, and could be done in-office with minimal downtime. In the first attempt, one implant was placed very easily, but the second could not be placed at all.

After about 45 minutes of poking and prodding around to see if she could get the right angle to get the applicator into the fallopian tube (and having a second doctor assist) it was decided that maybe the tube was blocked already. As they did not want to risk puncturing the uterus by pushing to forcefully into the tube, we decided to wait three months and do the HSG test to see what we were dealing with.

I took Advil for two days to deal with the tenderness/soreness, but it was no worse than my typical menstrual cramps. At the HSG appointment, we found that the tube with the essure implant was blocked, but the other tube was not. My OB-GYN was willing to try again so we scheduled a second appointment.

They have me an injection of a muscle relaxant just before attempting the second implant and it went in very quick and easily on the first attempt. I am not sure what the medication was, but I didn't feel any side effects from it and drove myself home after the procedure. There was no tenderness or cramping at all this time.

Three months later, the HSG showed that both tubes are blocked. The HSG itself is very uncomfortable - again, no worse than my normal menstrual cramps, but definitely not pleasant.

The biggest factors for me in choosing this option, and making a second attempt was trust in my OB-GYN. She answered all of my questions up front, allowed me to watch the video screen during the procedure, explained what she was doing all through the procedure and I was very confident in her experience and judgement.

Finally, some success stories! I had this procedure done a month ago. I haven't had the post test with the dye yet. I keep hearing all the negative side effects and how much people hate it. I honestly have had no problems...yet. I don't have bad periods. I don't have a lot of pain, a couple cramps every now and then that I just attribute to the scarring process. I'm really looking forward to not having any more children..and my husband is looking forward to it too!
