Hi I've been on the nuva ring for about 3 months now... I have hpv and my doctor said nuva ring would be okay to take but I have been having a discharge that smells really bad... no itching no burning.. could it be the nuva ring or should I get tested to make sure that it isn't something else? also all the woman who have the nuva ring i was wondering if ur breasts and nipples are really sore? -

Hey Parrotbay,
Was just wondering if you found any information out about this. I am experiencing similiar conditions. I was tested for HPV last year and it came back negative. I recently started the ring about 4-5 months ago. I have the discharge smell when I first put it in. It last for a few days and then goes away. I asked my doctor about it and she did't know what it was. Just wondering if you found any information. -

I have been on NUVA for about 5 months and I am not having any smells. never have this is my seconds time using this. I had HPV my test have been coming back negative for the past year. i dont think Nuva will do any harm with HPV. try using a medicated douche for the smell, at times thats what I doComment

I was on nuva ring for about 8 months and went off it becuase we are trying to conceive. the ring shouldn't cause any problems with HPV. I would think possibly the smell is from the bacteria on your hand when you insert it. Make sure before inserting the ring you wash your hand in water as hot as you can stand and antibacterial soap. don't use a medicated douche or scented douche as mentioned before. if the smell is from any kind of irritation the douche will most likely just irritate it more. if you feel like you need to just use warm water to douche.Comment

Now I just wash the ring off about every three days or so... I hope that doesn't affect the birth control in it...Comment

slipping out
I have been using nuva ring for 4 months and I too have experienced a smelly discharge, don't know why! Also I did not have a problem the 1st 3 months really, but now my ring will not stay in place. I mean several times a day I feel it low lying (entry point) of my vagina, I am thinking of changing b/c this is driving me insane.

Just some advice from a long time user
I've been on the ring for over a year. As far as the wierd discharge is concerned, just make sure your hands are very clean before you insert it.
Someone mentioned they keep taking it out and cleaning it, probably not the best idea, the more you take it out the larger chance there will be of getting bacteria on the ring which may lead that unpleasant discharge. I never take mine out during the month.
For the problem of the ring that keeps coming down, I found when I was first on the ring this was a problem, but it was because I was kind of scared to push it up too far... by the way I learned you can't "push it up too far". Otherwise for the most part I can only feel the ring maybe two or three times a month, but this is normal.
I love the ring, don't get discourged girls!!Comment

hi. i have been nuva for the past 2 years. once you insert it , you aren't supposed to remove it until time. i don't know if removing it to wash it off will hurt it or not, but you can get unnecessary bacteria on it if you aren't careful. i haven't had any discharge w/ smell or anything with itComment
