okay girls. I have looked into all BC and really want either my hubby to get a vasectomy or me get an IUD. He's less thrilled of getting his sperm tube clipped so it'll probably me that makes the decision to prevent pregnancy from here on out. I wanted to get an IUD but around where I am (GA) there are no doctors willing to put them in someone whose never had a child.

For anyone that has ever gotten an IUD and never had a child.... Are you out there? Was it excruciating? Did it puncture your vaginal wall or cervical wall? Did you get infections from it? Did it fall back out? Did you get pregnant anyway? or....Did it work????

Any info is very much appreciated!

I've never had a child and had a non-hormonol IUD inserted just over 2 years ago. I had to get an xray done beforehand to ensure my cervix was the right shape/size to hold one. I went to a Women's/Planned Parenthood clinic that was far more knowledgeable and comfortable with the procedure than my family doctor would have been. It was a tad painful and slightly uncomfortable for the first day or so. No problems and no real complaints other than my periods now seem to last a lot longer and happen more frequently. There is also some occasional intense cramping, but then, I always had that.

I've had mine for about 7 months now. My doctor was the one that had mentioned it to me, knowing i hadn't had kids yet. She just wanted to make sure I was in a monogamous relationship, due to the risk of PID from STDs.
They gave me a pill i had to insert the night before to dilate my cervix.
The actual procedure was pretty painful for me. They measured my uterus first to make sure it was big enough, then inserted the IUD (mirena) and I was grabbing the bed, yelling, and I believe I may have yelled Holy Sh*t haha.
After I cramped for dayyyss but a heating pad helped a lot.
The cramping eventually got better over a few weeks, i did spot for about 2 months though and had heavy periods.
After that two months I almost have no period at all. I still get crampy around the time I should start, all the symptoms, but no actual bleeding. Sometimes i might spot for a couple hours.
I was on the patch before and I like this WAY better.
I forget that it's even there most of the time, and I havent had any terrible side effects. My anxiety increased, which could be caused by it but I'm not sure. Nothing else though!

I was only 18 when I got my mirena put in, without having had any kids. The pill was giving me high blood pressure, and I absolutely refused to use the shot as birth control. I was just going to give up on birth control for a little bit, but my gyno asked if I would be interested in getting a Mirena put in, if my insurance would cover some of it. I did some research, and determined that this would probably be the easiest way to have birth control, and since I dont plan on having kids in the very near future, it was quite convienant. I went to the gyno in March to get the Mirena inserted. When the doc was trying to get the ruler thing up to measure my uterus, so he could tell just how far to put the Mirena, I got really bad cramping. I've always had bad cramps during my period, and this felt just the same. So, the doc numbed my cervix, and tried again. There was still some cramping, but nothing unbearable. After the Mirena was in, and my followup appt was scheduled, I went home, and layed down all day, because I was still cramping. I was also bleeding, but not very heavily. The next morning, the cramps were gone. I did still bleed and spot though. This happened from the end of March when I got it inserted until about two weeks ago. Now, I don't spot or anything. When I was bleeding, it wasnt even enough that I needed a pad or tampon. Maybe a panty liner, on the worst of days, but most of the time it was a pinkish almost brownish discharge when I wiped. I asked the gyno when I went back for my followup, and he said this was normal, and for some women it occurs for up to 6 months. I really wasnt too excited for the thought of it for six months (more of an issue when it came to feeling gross during sex, since I dont have sex on my period, and this was almost like that). But like I said, the bleeding stopped for at least two weeks now. I go back in two weeks for another followup. I love having the Mirena and not having to remember to take a pill everyday.
