    **Thinking about Nuva Ring-help!

Hi, I just got back from the gyno and he has suggested that I get on the Nuva Ring for a few reasons.
    A: Obvious, birth control
B: Lessen Cramps (not much has helped thus far)
C: To be able to skip periods if needed.

    Here's some background:
I compete in amatuer boxing, so it would be nice to be able to skip a period if I have a bout coming up. (I am completely exhausted when having my period) I need to be 100% when I step into the ring!

My concern is with the side effects, can anyone who is taking this fill me in on the effects it's had on them. I'm concerned about the hair loss (I've read that on here and a couple of other sites) Another concern is the weight gain, for boxing I have to maintain a specific weight. Right now I'm comfortable where I am at and don't want to be forced to try to lose water weight from the ring.

I've read that the side effects are:
    vaginal irritation or infection
    weight gain
    moodiness
(I don't really want to turn into a fat, grumpy woman with yeast infection)
Anyone with experience with the ring please weigh in....your thougths are much appreciated!

(sorry for the long post- and thanks in advance)

      not a fan of NuvaRing

Just last week I tried NuvaRing. After three days I had to take it out because I got a yeast infection and I was feeling anxious and depressed. I've had the same problems being on the pill, but the vaginal irritation happened pretty quickly for me with this. I couldn't feel the ring while it was in, but it was strange just knowing it was in there, and it seemed like it would be pretty obvious during any kind of sex.
Sorry if this response is too late for you.

I am on it and I love it but I was never a person who had regular periods and now I have it down to the day exactly. i dont think i gained weight on it because of it but I am having a hard time losing weight as for the infection it does increase them but I dont have them that bad but I am carefull about everything that Goes down there. and i am always moody lol. if you try good luck. you also sound very active so if you do gain any weight i think it will be very minimal.

I love the nuva ring. As far a guy being able to fell it while having sex, my boyfriend says that he can fell sometimes and sometimes not, but he doesn't care. Plus its kind of like a reasurence when he does feel it because he can feel it there and that we are being safe.

I have had a problem with yeast infections though, but it out ways having to take a pill everyday or having a low and dry sex life with depo!!!

            1. Any birth control pill/patch/shot/ring etc will accomplish birth control =)
            2. If your cramping is severe you may have dysmenorrhea (......................... ) But any birth control may help that not just nuvaring
            3. As far as skipping your period, in a normal healthy female, you can safely have only 1 period every 3 months (hence the popularity of Seasonale) but taking any birth control pill/patch etc and just skipping the week ur not on your medication and continuing immediately with your next months pills will give you this effect. For example I take Lo-Ovral birth control pills but i skip my placebo pills until my 3rd month (just like seasonale) its just cheaper for me to do it this way.

I do know a girl who was on Nuva-ring and loved it. Then again I knew another who hated it. Its going to depend on your body and your reaction to it =) good luck

What I've seen reactionwise from ya'all is that it makes you moody and gain weight but aren't those symptoms of any BC? I suppose I'm just wondering if anyone has tried nuva ring after having tried the pill or the patch? If so, are the moodiness and weight gain side effects only as bad or worse than the pill/patch?
This country throws the baby out with the bathwater, and it's darned "patriotic."

I've been on the ring for about 2 years or so. I haven't had any yeast infections or vaginal irritation. My weight goes up and down with about 5lbs or so which may or may not be related to the ring (I'm on another medication that can effect weight). I have actually experienced less moodiness since starting the ring. I skip my periods by immediately inserting a new ring rather than leaving it out for a week. I used to get pretty bad PMS and was advised by my old gyno to just skip my periods. Every few months or so I have breakthrough bleeding and take the ring off for a one week break.

As for my BF, he says he can feel it so I sometimes take it before sex and put it back in after. You can take it out for up to 2 hours and still be protected.

No hormonal birth control is perfect or completely side effect free, but so far the Nuvaring has worked the best for me. I've been on the pill and the Depo shot and prefer the Nuvaring over both. Planning on getting a tubal in the future (I'm only 25), but until then I plan to stick with the ring.

i was on the pill for about 7 years and had no problems, my doctor thought imight like the nuva ring after my son was born better, well in the begging about 11 months ago, i did love, my after about 2 months i started to have dryness down south during sex very badly and now it is every time, then came the low sex drive and now mood swings. to be honest i don't know if it is from the ring or stress and what not, i actually made a post asking for advice on this very thing. good luck with your decision
