Thinking about the Pill
I've only started having sex a couple months ago, I'm 18 and I've been thinking about going on the pill, but I'm not sure about the side affects. Has anyone had any side affects like gaining weight and being moody? The weight gain is the most I've been concerned about. Most of my friends have had some mild acne cleared up after going on the pill and have gorgeous skin. Has it happened to most of you pill users? -

well it depends on what brands u are planning on taking. Diane 35 is a great one and does wonders for your skin and no weight gain has been an issue. Nordette is a brand that causes weight gain just so u kno what to run away from! -
It depends on you too-I think certain drugs affect people differently. A good pill is loestrin fe-it gives you shorter periods (about 2 days) and lighter periods-it's more like spotting. It's supposed to help you not be moody-it's supposed to ease those PMS symptoms, and I can say that is true-I went on it because I got so witchy each month. It's also supposed to clear up acne, but that didn't work on me. It's a great pill that I would recommend, the only thing I didn't like about it was it decreased my sex drive. I'm 31, and it totally erased the little sex drive I had! For that reason, I went off the pill. My husband had a vasectomy so I didn't need to be on it, I went on just to help PMS symptoms. So now I'm pill-less, and my sex drive is definitely back and it's great. It seems there's always going to be some kind of side-effect with drugs, the question is what's more important to you-especially when getting pregnant is a possibility.

i am on LoestrinFE and i did experience some bad moods, but nothing too bad. i actually did not gain any weight, but that could also depend on your type of body. I also had spot bleeding on the 2 week of the pill for 3 months(this is my 4th and no spotting occured but period didnt really come which i guess is normal since its only suppose to be for 4 days!). i did feel a loss in my sex drive but im not sure if that is bc of the pill or the fact that i work 60 hour weeks, but i've cut down on my hours and find myself coming onto my boyfriend more..so all in all i would recommend it bc unlike ortho this keeps you on the same hormone pill throughout the whole month...ive heard a lot of bad things from people that used ortho.
They had gained at least 10 pounds in the 1st month and had very bad mood swings. but i hope this helped! and if you have any questions about the Loestrin just ask!Comment

If you're really worried about weight gain with the pill... think about your weight gain if you have a kid!! So stop thinking about going on birth control and just do it!
Enough with the preaching. When I first went on birth control, I told the doctor to put me on something that won't make my boobs bigger... cuz lord knows I didn't need that!!! As far as the low dose birth control pills, you can ask your doctor but most insurance companies won't cover that.
My best advice to you is just make the appt and tell your doctor want you want in a pill, tell her/him that you don't want to gain weight and you want your sink to be clear.
I'm on the nuva ring and have been for a year, and its great. You insert in vaginaly and leave it in for three weeks and take it out for one. I have no problems with taking the pill everyday because Im forgetful, so this was a dream come true when I found out about the ring!Comment
