Yellow discharge is NEVER something minor. She needs to see a doctor. NOW, before she develops PID (which can lead to anything from discomfort to sterility and sepsis if left untreated). It sounds at worst like trichomoniasis, and at best, minor bleeding, which is also something to worry about (could be an early sign of cervical cancer). Also just because the symptoms go away doesn't mean the infection is gone - non-symptomatic STDs happen all the time, especially in men - so if she gave something to you, it is even more likely that you don't know it.

Flu-like symptoms can also be a sign of an STD.

None of her symptoms would be a result of a surge of hormones from birth control, and beyond that, if she were having side effects, it is highly unlikely it would begin four days after taking the morning after pill...it would begin in the first couple days most likely.

Take her to the MD and get tested with her if you can get an appointment - there are also various STD clinics that offer reduced or free testing depending on your income if that is an issue - just look up your county health department and it should have any information you need.

Also, following up - hate to say it, but people lie when sex is involved, you just never know. It's happened to the best of us. Get tested to be on the safe side.

I dropped her off at work this morning. Her sinus was pretty bad today. She felt tired as well.

It probably isn't trichomoniasis because she doesn't feel any inflammation. PID sounds scary.

I'll express my concern about what the "flu + yellow discharge" may mean asap.

We have free public health care in Europe. Costs aren't a problem.

Yesterday, she reassured me about her sexual past. She had made only one previous attempt at intercourse. It was unprotected, but about 8 months ago. Later that night we made love for the 2nd time. This time with protection. It was wonderful. Having felt pain and discomfort the first time, she really enjoyed it this time.

We basically repeated what he had done before, except that she was very well naturally lubed and relaxed, by the time we got to "it". Started slowly and raised the intensity as we went along. Her confidence and comfort levels were far higher and she allowed me to perform oral sex. She had felt quite a bit of pain on the first go-round, but this time she reported feeling only a slight burning sensation after the act. I'm not a doctor, but while I was down there, everything seemed to be perfectly normal, as far as odors induced by infections were concerned.

The next day (today), we had lunch together on a park-bench where we shared very positive considerations about the night before and our relationship in general. The first thing she told me however, was that she noticed some menstruation-like blood while in the bathroom, earlier that morning. She wasn't sure if it was spotting or menstruation. Her first day of placebo pills, when her period is expected, is Sunday (27th). Two days away.

The blood may be a result of several different things, ranging from the Yaz pills, the MAP messing with her cycle, pregnancy, cervical cancer, etc. It may even have been her menstruation arriving early. I'm getting in touch with her in about an hour, so I'll have an update on this soon.

The yellow discharge she noticed after having our first sexual experience, slightly morphed over two to three days into her normal white viscous discharge. At any rate, she is making arrangements to see a gynecologist.

Is it possible the yellow discharge could've simply been semen residue from the ejaculation that occurred days earlier?

An update on the situation.

• The blood she reported was spotting and not menstruation;
• She had her usual PMS symptoms 2-3 days prior to her first placebo-pill day (Today);
• Her period should normally arrive within the next 4 days;
• Her cold has passed on to me now and she no longer feels flu symptoms.

A couple of question I'd like to toss up:

1. Are PMS symptoms possible without a period?
2. If her cold did in fact come about as a result of some serious STI, would it have been contagious?

Yes, definitely, yes... She can have PMS symptoms without having a period.

Not sure about #2.

Oh Wil, that post scared you, I'm sorry...

I Don't know if she had un-protected sex that first time 8 months ago but I surely think member's may agree with me, it wouldn't have taken her 8 months to ascertain something felt different. She would have felt something earlier on in the piece.

I can't recall ever getting PMS without then getting my period and seeing as I'm 46 that's a good indication I think, boobs sore is the worse, then again they get bigger that's a bonus

She had a cold.. she passed it onto you...

Just let her see her Doctor to confirm all of this and you'll be fine.

You have admitted you now feel the cold that she had...

I think your placing too much worry which is beautiful, but not necessary. If she has no symptons anymore, no yellow discharge which could be anything including her getting used to the new pill, in-between periods and her cold is gone, I think things will be fine.

Slight correction: Her first of four placebo-pill days was today (Monday).

So far all is quiet on the menstruation front.

The 2nd of 4 placebo-pill days came and went. Still no period.

Tomorrow will be the third day.

She's decided that if tomorrow morning (Wednesday) her period doesn't come, she'll take a pregnancy test on Thursday morning.

We're reassuring ourselves everything will be okay.

Like what are the odds?

She feels no pregnancy symptoms. She was on the pill. She took the morning after pill as well. The diarrhea she had two days prior to unprotected sex wasn't that intense. The odds are in our favour.

Today is the 3rd morning of placebo pills and her period did not arrive. We're going to purchase a pregnancy test. She'll take the test precisely on the 17th day after unprotected sex.

Considering she is about to resume her active birth control pills again, is it possible that her period may not arrive at all, until her next cycle ends, even if she's not pregnant?

The test should put us at ease, but we're now wondering how long the delay will be. A delay of up to 5-days is more or less expected, but I've read about cases of delays of up to two weeks, one being from a woman who took the MAP on three different occasions in her lifetime. Every time reporting a two-week delay and no pregnancy.

For me the only nuance that is bugging me, is the spotting (bright red blood) that showed up on the 25th, that I'm told, can just as well be an indication of implantation and *gulp* pregnancy, as it can be of an altered period from the MAP. It might also have been a result of the having made love the night before.

At any rate, we need each other right now. She's feeling anxious, which may itself be delaying the period.
