I don't know what to do about birth control
Use condoms. Your boyfriend should've come up with that one

I am also fully content with sex not ever being a part of the relationship. Is that normal?
It's easy, and normal, to be content without experiencing something you've never experienced. I can be fully content without experiencing spaceflight. A baby can be fully content without being able to walk. If we had the ability to fully comprehend the magnitude of all the amazing things we were missing out on... well, let's just say ignorance is bliss

Contentment and improvement are enemies. When you're happy with what you have, you're not as likely to search for something better. Right now, you're feeling content with what you've got, so you don't see the need to improve the relationship.

The problem here is that this contentment isn't sustainable. Your boyfriend is half of that relationship. He isn't content, and as much as he loves you, he won't spend the rest of his life in a relationship where you're the only one who's happy. If he leaves, the contentment you feel will be gone.

This guy is a real trooper, even more so if he's in college and surrounded by pretty girls. Not many guys would spend an entire year doing things your way. When you decide you're ready, be ready to rock his world -- he deserves it.

except that, while condoms are super effective, they're not 100% effective. you might think i'm paranoid, but if there were anyone in the world that would get pregnant for not being on birth control it would be me. i won't have sex without birth control and a condom. my luck is just that bad.

while i definitely understand where you're coming from (the "don't knock it until you try it" mentality), i don't know if that really applies to losing one's virginity? it's not something you just "try" one day like moving to a new city or eating an exotic food. it's not reversible and can have serious consequences. he's known from day 1 that i'm not like other girls. if he was that unhappy, and wanted to have sex that badly, then he could just leave. i'm not making him stay against his will. and while he is amazing and i love him, i don't think that means he "deserves" any sexual favor from me.
