    IUD problems...advice?

    Hi,
I have just had the IUD fitted today in the UK as i had started to react badley to the pill. I didnt know much about it but what the doctor said sounded great. however it was really painfully and i have had cramps all day.
i am now really struggling to find the strings...is this becuase its only just been fitted or not?
should i call my doctor already? i have another appointment in 3 weeks and dont want to seem like im over reacting...
any advice for me please, its really stressing me out!!!

It is uncomfortable at first, but if the pain is much more than just uncomfortable because it's a foreign object introduced to your system, call your doctor ASAP. Are you bleeding?

i had the mirena put in once & for like a week after, i was in sooooo much pain that i laid around alot & cried. it was horrible but it did go away. i couldn't find the string wen i was trying to find it, turns out i was touching it but it just didn't feel like i was. so it could b there, u could b touching it & not even know it. i later had to have mine removed due to it causing ovarian cyst. if u r worried, call ur doc, ur health & comfort r important

I laid in bed in pain for 3 weeks on more than the recommended dose of ibuprofen daily. I finally went in and asked for pain killers. They had 3 people look it over and said it was just fine. So I asked for pain killers again. They wouldn't because what if something went wrong. "But you just said it's perfect" There response was the pain should go away. I hadn't gotten anything done in 3 weeks and I was ready to pull the thing out myself so I demanded pain killers. They agreed if I had an ultrasound. So I got the lowest dose of hydrocodone which is mostly tylenol and an ultrasound that said it was perfectly placed. The pain continued for 2more days not at all lessened by the prescription tylenol (I'd hardly count that as real hydrocodone) when it suddenly stopped. I thought great my body finally adjusted. Had sex. Massive amounts of blood when I went to the toilet so I checked the strings and felt the end of the IUD. I would have pulled it out but my cervix was pointed down to the bottom wall of the vagina and I couldn't get the right angle. An hour later when my cervix had shifted I couldn't feel it. If I hadn't checked right then I never would have known. I went to my general doctor instead of the idiots who put it in. She said the whole thing was odd but trusted my word over any machine, palpated my cervix, and sure enough there was an IUD crammed in there which slid right out. Needless to say I opted not to have it put back in.

If you can feel the strings at all I would not call yet. They'll likely tell you the pain is normal and they dislike giving pain killers in case the IUD is about to do something bad like puncture the uterine wall. If you've completely lost the strings or are having very sharp localized pain instead of just overall cramps then call. It may have slid farther up in the uterus and it would be easier to retrieve the strings and put it back in position now than if it floats around up there for several weeks.
