    Yaz and Suicidal Thoughts?

    Hello everybody,

Let me start off by saying I have been on Yaz for the past year and a half. I am a perfectly healthy 23 year old and my life isn't bad at all! I go to college (a good one) I am about to graduate, I have excellent parents and a great boyfriend. However, for the past 6 months or so I have had suicidal thoughts that get worse from time to time. I don't particularly wanna kill myself (which I guess can tell you guys how irrational this whole thing is), but I sometimes have the "what if" thought (especially around windows and lately sometimes closets and stuff if you know what I mean). I used to have lots of dreams and expectations about life and a great drive for things, now everything scares me and I seem to have lost all hope in life (like I am never gonna do anything and that even dreaming about something is stupid cause I'm never gonna make it). I even went to a concert (one I had been waiting for for a while) and I didn't really enjoy it!
I have had problems with hypochondria before (you know thinking that I always have some sort of life threatening disease) but I had never had this kinds of thoughts before and I am very very scared.
I was wondering if this could have anything to do with Yaz. Cause I have noticed Yaz has made me sort of weird, you know I am not as happy as I used to be.
Has any of you had this problem with Yaz? I'm just trying to find the reason for this thoughts... I wanna deal with this problem pronto and start enjoying me life again. HELP!

    Hiya,

It's possible your birth control can make you have these bad thoughts. Are you taking Yaz because of PMDD or just as another form of birth control? I have seen that people that take Yaz because of PMDD or PCOD (Poly Cystic Ovary Disorder) seem to do much better on it then those people who do not have this issue and are on Yaz. Also people that need a lower dose of estrogens seem to be better as well. (Even though I'm "obese" I am super sensitive to hormones in my body and 30 ul's was just TOO much for me. Glad they gave me the pills!)Most likely allergic to Copper IUD- Nickel allergies suck- and didn't want implantation or anything like that.

If you have been doing well for awhile on the pill then I'd say maybe it's a phase? If it's been this way from the beginning I'd talk to your doctor about switching pills, just do so at the end of the pill pack cycle (after the placebos.) Suicidal thoughts are not healthy at all and if it is indeed the pill then you might want to switch before things get ugly, if you know what I mean?

Good luck, and hope things work out

If you have ANY suspicion that the pill is causing this, get off it immediately. Yes, birth control pills (not necessarily just Yaz) can cause various mood changes, even depression.

As the above poster said, switching brands might work, or you could consider a non-hormonal option like the copper IUD, cervical cap, diaphragm, etc.
