On feb. 9th I had the copper IUD inserted. I havent had any children before, so it was beyond painfull. Well I have been bleeding non stop, and cramping so bad since. I call my dr's nurse 2x already and she just keeps telling me that if I can hold out its the best birth control for so many years. I am trying my best to hold out, esp. since my mother kindly paid the bill for me. But it's interfering with work and my whole life! Is it just me, or does it get better sometime???

I chose the copper instead of the merina bc I didnt want hormones that were in it (was on the same hormones in the shot for years, did some damage that I dont want to happen again). They wont put me on the pill bc of blood pressure. So I really have no options left.

How about giving it to the end of this month, and if nothing changes, then to heck with that thing.

I have the copper IUD and love it, but that doesn't mean it's for everyone.

Have you considered using a cervical cap or diaphragm? If I ever remove mine, I'll look into one of those two non-hormonal options.

I understand your pain. I don't really have any advise because I just got mine inserted yesterday. It was probably one of the most painful things I've experienced. i'm on day 2 and still in a lot of pain. I hope things get better for you. How long have you had it in?

I don't know whether I am qualified to answer this or not, as I just had the Paragard put in two days ago. I have had one child, and my pain level was more than they told me I should anticipate, but it was probably a six on a scale of 10 and it was gone after 5 minutes. I have had some spotting since but that's it.

If you are having that much pain after almost three months, I would by pass the gatekeeper (the nurse) and make an appointment ASAP. I did a lot of research on the IUD before I decided to go for it, and there are cases where the IUD can perforate the uterine lining, or become infected. These can affect your fertility or really harm you in other ways.

I am NOT trying to scare you!! I urge you to get in as soon as possible, though. It's better to be on the safe side! Pain like you're describing doesn't sound normal to me. I'm sorry you're going through this!

i have had the merina so slightly different. i found insertion so painful and for quite a while after i was having contractions which at times i found unbareable when contacting my doctor they said it was fairly normal and just to take anti inflamitary pain killers. I have had my merina for 7months now and its virtually pain free so im glad i stuck it out. i know its difficult and at times i wanted to pull my hair ot but i think (hope) its worth it in the long run. hope this helps

I have had the copper IUD for a year now, and just posted in another thread about my experiences with bleeding after sex in the last few months...fun.
But as far as pain goes, I have one word for you: ALEVE. and if that doesn't help, have a cocktail!! I'm serious. It actually really helps. Medicinal Cosmos!! he he. Anyway, I began the first few months of having my IUD with SEVERE cramps-pain radiating from my cervix all the way down from the tops of my legs to my feet. I was having contractions-I have not had children but my mother had the IUD and told me that was what I was experiencing, essentially-your body attempting to expel something...great. The worst was that these cramps began (and still begin) even before I started bleeding-I was doubled over in pain, in tears-the doctors wouldn't give me anything strong for the cramps but I tried some vicodin from my boyfriend's mouth surgery and it did nothing, ibuprofen does nothing, the only thing that really helps me deal with the cramping is Aleve (naproxen)-and you can take two within a few hours-that would be the amount doctors prescribe-the Aleve bottle says one every 8-12 hours I believe, so I really don't feel awesome about putting strong chemicals into my body once a month but otherwise I couldn't function! I have tried some homeopathic cramp relief and creams and such...not happening.
It has gotten somewhat better but I am still having a considerable amount of pain each month. I have a few friends with it who don't have any problems and love it, guess I am just lucky! Anyway, my doctor also told me to give it at least 6 months before I made a decision to pull it or not, you need to give your body time to adjust. Good luck!

So...Im goin to see the dr. again on June 4th. The cramps stopped being everyday allday deal about a month ago, so I have just been waiting for the bleeding to stop. And it hasnt. So by that appt. it'll be almost 6 months.

The other night I was having a pain in my adobmen and went to immediate care (was worried it was my appendix) and the dr's and nurses were VERY suprised that my dr and nurse just passed by that Ive been bleeding THAT heavy for so long. They did a prego test to make sure I wasnt having an ectopic pregnancy. I still am getting cramps some days. But bleeding soooo much. I'm spending a fortune on pads! And tampons dont ever last an hour or so. So I'm just going to get it taken out. I really hope it doesnt hurt as much as it did when I got it put in. I know a lot of people love it, just didnt work out for me I guess.

I was in bed for 3 weeks because of my IUD. They finally agreed to give me pain killers if I had an ultrasound. The ultrasound showed it perfectly in place and the next day the pain stopped. I thought finally it was working out. Then I found it in my cervix and had to have it removed. My uterus finally accomplished it's goal of getting rid of that foreign object. I continued to bleed for months afterward. It didn't stop until I went back on yasmin.

I had the copper IUD inserted on April 6th during my period. My insertion was also beyond painful, as I've never had children. Two weeks later I got my period again. It was the heaviest, most painful period I've ever experienced - waves of awful stabbing cramps that would nearly have me doubled over. I went through about 3x's as many pads and tampons as I had usually gone through.

I never thought I would ever feel normal again, but I did. I've had very minimal cramping between periods. I'm currently having my second period with my new copper friend and, while I still had some intense cramps and heavy bleeding, it has definitely eased up this time around. Everyone is different. I forced myself to stick it out and it seems to be working out well thus far, but definitely don't stick with it if it's causing you this much pain!

I just had mine inserted this morning, so it's been about 4 hours. I was given Midol afterward (forgot to take painkiller before, oops!) and went for a walk in the park. The pain during insertion was pretty intense, but now I'm just having some mild cramping and a bit of a bloated feeling. Here's hoping the cramps don't come back! *crosses fingers*
