Could really use some advice about the NUVARING

I am curious about the nuvaring? I have a Dr. App. 2 morrow and I'm currently on the BC pill Lutera AKA Allesse. I like it a lot, haven't had too many problems with it, just tired of taking every nite. I would really like some feed back about the nuvaring??? Already looked at the website!:confused

The only real problem with the nuvaring is that it tends to be too big for a lot of people. You usually have to position it just right (get the end under the cervix instead of over) to have it sit all the way inside. Even then some women have it sticking out a little. Which seems to work so long as it doesn't annoy you too much.

I'd see if your doctor has a sample one or 2 they can give you to try it out before you get a script.

      steer clear of nuvaring

i was on the nuvaring for 3 years after giving birth to my daughter in october 2006 and am currently pregnant after having used it. since coming off of it i have had paps come back abnormal and hpv is present along with polyps on my cervix, (only had 1 partner who i've been with for the past 10 years) my cervix is weakened and i have intermittent vaginal bleeding and my sister who was also on this form of bc for about the same time has had the same issues. i believe that the hormones are released too close to your cervix and cause it to deteriorate

If such problems were common I'd think we'd hear more about it. This sounds more like a genetic predisposition to having those disorders. Also a nuvaring can't give you hpv but hpv can lie dormant for a long time before causing problems. Guys can have it with no symptoms and tests may come back negative during times with no symptoms so it's entirely possible you did get it from your partner years ago.

actually, my SIL is a pharmacist and the synthetic forms of progesterone and estrogen can cause hpv to form and it's more likely to happen with the nuvaring when the synthetic hormones are passed through the vaginal walls, the synthetic forms can also cause it with regular pills or any form of bc but the risk is higher with the way they are passed with the NR .... as for me contracting it from my partner... um we've been together for over 10 years and have only slept with each other and i've had several paps in the last 10 yrs since you get one at least once a year and never had it present before now... same with my sister ... and the reason you're not hearing about any of these thus far is b/c the nuvaring is still new on the market (july 2002) and they haven't had time to do the research needed on the longterm side effects of it yet with it only being out 8 years

HPV is a virus. You can't randomly make it. You have to get it from someone else. It is entirely possible to carry it for 10 years before it shows problems. It just means your immune system depressed it but couldn't kill it and something finally stressed your body enough to let it appear. There's is no way to get HPV from birth control. I will accept the argument that the nuvaring may have contributed to it's appearance by stressing the body and irritating the cervix but you still caught it from someone. A virus has to go from host to host. Nuvarings are sterile until opened and a virus wouldn't survive on it for as long as most sit before use.
